Cooperatives regulate harvesters in the fields

During the 2024-2025 winter-spring rice harvest season, Hoa Xuan Tay 1 General Agricultural Service Cooperative (Dong Hoa Town) organized a meeting with harvester owners under the witness of the neighborhood chief and representatives of Hoa Xuan Tay ward authorities. Here, the harvester owners signed a contract to provide rice harvesting services with the cooperative. In addition to the terms of compliance with the cooperative's machine regulation schedule, the parties also agreed on transparent prices and service fees.

According to Mr. Huynh Van Bao, Director of this cooperative, the unit has a service contract with 16 harvesters on an area of 300 hectares. The cooperative will harvest simultaneously from May 2-5. This crop's harvest time is pushed up earlier because according to the pumping station's water schedule, on May 10, water will be brought to the fields for farmers to sow early to avoid pests. The main pests in the local rice fields are usually stem borers, not planthoppers, so to avoid damage to the upcoming summer-autumn crop, farmers are encouraged to sow early. "For the area of increased crops and crop conversion, the cooperative has completed the land preparation and farmers have planted seeds. To meet the summer-autumn rice schedule, the cooperative will both harvest and prepare the land, strengthen the canals and roads in the fields," Mr. Bao added.

An Nghiep Agricultural Cooperative (Tuy An district) is also ready to rent machines to ensure the harvest of this winter-spring crop. According to Director of the Cooperative Tran Tan Khoa, to harvest all 240 hectares, the Cooperative has deployed 8 harvesters, of which 6 are rented from outside and 2 are owned by members. The weather is sunny and crisp, so the rice is harvested wherever it is ripe so that farmers can dry it in the sun and pack it for long-term storage. In case of unusual rain or if farmers have a need, they can use the Cooperative's rice drying service. Since 2015, there are 2 rice crops per year, and from the beginning of the year, the Cooperative has contacted the machine owners to ensure that there are no machine or personnel problems during the harvest.

Not only the above two cooperatives, most agricultural cooperatives in the province organize rice harvesting services. Some cooperatives have their own combine harvesters, while most cooperatives contract to rent machines from members and people and then regulate them in the fields. Currently, the entire production area managed by the cooperative from plowing to harvesting is 100% mechanized.
