Nguyen Hoang Yen Nhi is sure to win a medal at SEA Games 32 even though she did not compete.
According to the Organizing Committee's regulations, the players will compete in a knockout match to win the championship. However, due to the odd number of participants, one player will not have to participate in the quarter-finals, but will automatically have a ticket to the semi-finals. The remaining three pairs will compete to win the right to enter the group of 4 strongest players.
After the draw, athlete Nguyen Hoang Yen Nhi was lucky to get a direct place in the semi-finals. It is worth mentioning that at the 32nd SEA Games, the Organizing Committee will award medals to 4 athletes who reach the semi-finals (1 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze). Therefore, Nguyen Hoang Yen Nhi is sure to have a medal at the 32nd SEA Games even though she has not competed yet. This is the first SEA Games medal in her career.
In the semi-finals, Nguyen Hoang Yen Nhi will face the winner of the match between Santhinee Jaisuekul (Thailand) or Rubilen Amit (Philippines). The semi-finals are scheduled to take place on May 8.
Nguyen Hoang Yen Nhi received many expectations at SEA Games 32. She is the first female player to win the professional women's 3-cushion carom tournament in Vietnam.
The remaining player of Phung Kien Tuong will face Waratthanun Sukritthanes (Thailand). In this bracket, the player of the host country Cambodia, Sruong Pheavy, is highly appreciated. She was ranked second in the world women's 3-cushion carom rankings of the World Billiards Union (UMB) and won the Asian championship as well as a series of titles at the PBA Tour, the number 1 professional tournament in Korea. Sruong Pheavy is also considered a strong candidate for the gold medal in the women's 3-cushion carom event at the 32nd SEA Games.
