From "living from meal to meal" to the owner of the Hao Dat tea brand

From simple farmers, having to worry about every meal, going through many hardships, but with diligence, effort and sharp thinking, Ms. Dao Thanh Hao - Director of Hao Dat Tea Cooperative (Thai Nguyen province) and her husband have gradually built the famous Hao Dat tea brand as it is today.

Hao Dat Tea Cooperative is one of the units producing and processing branded tea for many years in Tan Cuong, Thai Nguyen City with the output of hundreds of tons of tea sold to the market each year. Over the years, the Cooperative has constantly innovated production methods, gradually developed, built brand, reputation, and raised the level of Tan Cuong tea products in the market.

Sharing with PV Dan Viet , the female Director of Hao Dat Tea Cooperative said that in 2012, she established the Tea Production and Processing Cooperative to help people change their awareness in applying science and technology to processing and production, contributing to increasing the value of products when brought to the market.

In 2016, Ms. Hao officially established Hao Dat Tea Cooperative with the desire to attract people to participate in developing tea production.

Initially, when it was first established, the cooperative encountered many difficulties because people had not yet changed their thinking in agricultural production. Therefore, Ms. Hao has constantly learned knowledge, improved her qualifications and skills, absorbed new and modern agricultural production methods, and built a new cooperative model. Since its establishment, the cooperative has helped create trust and a solid foundation for people to develop production together.

"To ensure product quality, each production stage of the Cooperative has specialized staff to guide and closely supervise, ensuring the production process follows VietGAP standards. The product processing and packaging stages are automated on modern production lines.

In 2023, the Cooperative will sell more than 130 tons of various types of dried tea buds to the market, including about 80 tons of young tea buds, 25 tons of tea buds and 25 tons of traditional tea leaves, bringing in revenue of about 23 billion VND. It is expected that in 2024, the total revenue of Hao Dat Tea Cooperative will reach 28 billion VND," said Ms. Hao.

Currently, the Cooperative has 14 different product lines suitable for many customers such as: Hand-roasted Dinh tea priced at 5 million VND/kg; Dinh Dinh tea priced at 3 million VND/kg; Special Shrimp Non tea priced at 400,000 VND/kg. Up to this point, Hao Dat Tea Cooperative has about 50 agents nationwide. In the coming time, the Cooperative strives to launch the number 1 premium tea products in Vietnam, and gradually turn the Cooperative's tea products into meaningful gifts in many countries around the world.

Along with the National Target Program on New Rural Development, the Cooperative has built an OCOP product brand to enhance the value and affirm the prestige of the product. In 2020, the Cooperative had 3 product lines achieving 4-star OCOP, by 2021 the Cooperative upgraded the product of young shrimp tea to 5-star OCOP at the national level.

During its operation, the Cooperative has always received attention from local authorities and sectors in promoting and orienting the Cooperative to develop towards clean agricultural production. In 2023, the Cooperative was recognized for organic conversion, thanks to the application of organic tea production. Currently, Hao Dat Tea Cooperative is creating jobs for about 60 regular workers and hundreds of seasonal workers with an average income of 8 - 10 million VND/person/month.

The results of tireless efforts

According to Ms. Dao Thanh Hao, the greatest honor for Hao Dat Tea Cooperative is to have the opportunity to welcome the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to visit and talk in early January 2023.

With her own efforts and endeavors, Ms. Dao Thanh Hao has been honored to receive many Certificates of Merit from local levels and sectors such as: Being honored by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union as an Outstanding Vietnamese Farmer in 2017; The Prime Minister awarded a Certificate of Merit for her outstanding achievements in the movement "Farmers compete to produce well, unite to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty" in 2017.

In particular, in 2019, Ms. Hao was awarded the Third Class Labor Medal by the President for having an effective production and business model, contributing to the socio-economic development of Thai Nguyen province.

In 2024, Hao Dat Tea Cooperative was honored to be proposed as one of 63 typical cooperatives nationwide to participate in the Prime Minister's dialogue with farmers program.
