According to Reuters , Huawei is planning to start mass shipping its latest artificial intelligence (AI) chip 910C to Chinese customers as early as May. According to the source, some 910C shipments have been delivered this month.
Industry experts say this is a good time for Huawei to replace Nvidia after US President Donald Trump extended a ban on exporting AI chips to China, including the high-performance Nvidia H20 series.
Reuters , citing an insider, revealed that Huawei's 910C chip represents an architectural breakthrough, not just a technological one. Specifically, the source said, the chip achieved performance comparable to Nvidia's H100 chip by combining two 910B processors into a single package through a variety of advanced integration techniques.
"The latest US Commerce Department export restrictions on Nvidia's H20 mean that Huawei's Ascend 910C will now be the hardware of choice for Chinese AI model developers to deploy inference capabilities," said Paul Triolo, partner at consulting firm Albright Stonebridge Group.
Not only 910C, just one day after the export ban order from the US, Huawei announced Ascend 920, the next-generation AI processor at a partner conference.
DigiTimes Asia reported that the Ascend 920 is expected to enter mass production in the second half of 2025. Additionally, industry experts said it could replace the H20 when China loses access to the product in the near future.
Huawei's unveiling of the Ascend 920 took experts by surprise, especially since it came so soon after the White House announced the ban. The expansion of export controls has been in the works for months, so Huawei has had to consider many solutions to find its own "way out".
