Hue receives nearly 310 billion VND in funding to help farmers recover their economy and adapt to climate change.

The Luxembourg Government and the Green Climate Fund have provided Thua Thien Hue with nearly VND310 billion to enhance economic resilience and climate change adaptation for farming households.

On December 19, the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province coordinated with the Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency to organize the launching ceremony of two projects "Financing for Resilience - Promoting climate-smart agriculture and financial inclusion in Thua Thien Hue province to improve the resilience of farming households, especially women" (VIE/039) and "Adaptation and resilience to climate change in Thua Thien Hue province" (VIE/301).

These projects are co-funded by the Luxembourg Government and the Green Climate Fund. Of which, project VIE/039 has a total funding of 2 million Euros (equivalent to nearly 53 billion VND) over 2 years, project VIE/301 has a total funding of 10 million USD (equivalent to more than 254 billion VND) over 5 years.

The objectives of these two projects are to enhance the economic resilience and climate change adaptation of farming households, with a special focus on women; and to improve the warning system to help people and authorities better prevent climate hazards and respond to climate change.

In addition, the projects also aim to restore 400 hectares of coastal forests in Thua Thien Hue to protect the ecosystem and deploy sustainable value chains...

Speaking at the launching ceremony of the projects, Vice Chairman of Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Committee Hoang Hai Minh highly appreciated the achievements of the projects that the people and the Government of Luxembourg have sponsored and implemented in the province over the past 17 years.

Regarding projects VIE039 and VIE301, Mr. Hoang Hai Minh said that the province will continue to direct relevant agencies and localities to closely coordinate with the project owner and the Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency to successfully implement them, contributing to the development of an increasingly sustainable cooperative relationship between the Luxembourg Government and Vietnam in general, the Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency and Thua Thien Hue province in particular.

The Vice Chairman of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Committee hopes to have the support of the Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency and international organizations in the project implementation process as well as support in attracting and mobilizing funding sources to implement large-scale projects in areas such as sustainable forestry management, ecosystem-based adaptation focusing on Tam Giang lagoon and coastal areas, attracting finance for climate change response from the private sector...
