The Department of Agriculture and Environment and the Center for Cultivation and Plant Protection of Region IV inspected the situation of locusts destroying bamboo trees.
Through understanding and understanding from households, this is the first time locusts have been seen destroying people's bamboo trees. To deal with locusts destroying people's crops, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has directed specialized agencies to provide guidance on how to resolve the issue to ensure production for people.
Accordingly, the current prevention measures are manual methods, such as: Using nets to catch and feed poultry, soaking and composting into organic fertilizer or destroying them; simple traps can be designed such as large open-mouthed plastic bags, using lights at night or bait to lure locusts into flying in and then closing the bag. In addition, drugs containing active ingredients such as Imidacloprid, Emamectin Bezoate + Lufenuron, Nereistoxin can be used to destroy them.
Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Tran Dinh Hiep said: Grasshoppers usually lay eggs from September to November every year; the eggs hibernate in the soil from December to February of the following year, and hatch into young grasshoppers around March to April. Therefore, from November of the previous year to February of the following year is the best time to eradicate young grasshopper nests. People use measures such as: Digging the soil, plowing the surface layer in areas where there are suspected nests; encouraging chickens and ducks to eat eggs in the soil; along streams and creeks, dig up egg nests, collect and destroy them or release chickens to eat the eggs... From March to April of the following year, people should monitor areas where young grasshoppers are found. If the density is high, they can use sticky traps, nets and spray chemicals to prevent and control them.
