- Building the value chain of Ca Mau shrimp industry
- Enterprises and farmers join hands to promote breakthroughs in the shrimp industry
- "Fragrant rice - clean shrimp" - Direction for sustainable development of agricultural economy
- When the "shrimp capital" sets sail to the open sea - Part 1: Doubling the strength
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Van Su spoke at the conference.
The pilot production project "Building a 3-phase super-intensive commercial white-leg shrimp farming model using low-water-change and biosafety recirculation technology" was implemented from 2023. By October 2024, the project results were recognized as excellent by the Provincial People's Committee in Decision No. 206.
Delegates attending the conference reviewed and accelerated the replication of the super-intensive, recirculating, low-water-change, biosafety white-leg shrimp farming model.
From the initial success, the province is aiming to expand the area of clean shrimp farming throughout the province. The Department of Science and Technology is implementing the project "Mobilizing resources to expand the technology process of raising super-intensive, recirculating, low-water-change, bio-safe white-leg shrimp in Ca Mau province". The project lasts 24 months (January 2025 - December 2026), implemented in 12 communes: Ly Van Lam, Ta An Khuong, Quach Pham, Luong The Tran, Dam Doi, Cai Nuoc, Hung My, Phu Tan, Cai Doi Vam, Nguyen Viet Khai, Dat Moi, Nam Can.
Zero-waste shrimp farming models are highly productive and environmentally friendly.
To date, the project has registered more than 111 hectares. Of which, 47 hectares of 10 households are implementing farming, some households have re-stocked the second time and are preparing for the third crop. Average results after two repeated farming seasons: area 28 hectares, average stocking density 180 fish/m2, farming time 85 days, average survival rate 72% highest 76%, harvest size 30 fish/kg; productivity 35.3 tons/ha/crop; profit margin 60.8%.
With the above results, the model achieved 81% of the productivity plan, 100% success rate, and profit margin reached 60.8% (7.8% higher than the set target).
Naturally grown seaweed improves water resources and serves as food for shrimp.
At the preliminary conference, the professional sectors assessed that the model was initially easy to implement, highly economically efficient, and did not discharge waste into the environment. At the same time, the model also opened up the potential to develop two new, complementary occupations: tilapia farming for export and seaweed cultivation for export processing. This is a model suitable for local conditions, meeting the development of green aquaculture and circular economy, contributing to the sustainable development of the shrimp industry in Ca Mau province in particular and the whole country in general.
Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Van Su commented that this is a fast-growing and highly effective model, a direction in line with the sustainable development trend of the shrimp industry in Ca Mau province.
“In the coming time, relevant departments, branches and sectors need to continue to coordinate to replicate the model. Promote propaganda in many forms, integrate with programs and plans to aim to replicate the model in 2025 and the following years. Ca Mau hopes to soon achieve the target of 1,000 hectares of clean shrimp farming, creating a breakthrough in the development of the key shrimp industry, contributing to the sustainable development of the locality and the whole country” - the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee wishes.
