Tri Ton is a mountainous, border, ethnic district and one of the 74 poor districts in the country, with nearly 34% of the population being ethnic minorities. At the beginning of 2025, the whole district still had 4,973 poor and near-poor households, accounting for 14.87%. Particularly, the number of households in need of housing support was 1,336, including 1,293 new households and 43 households for repair. Of which, 39 were people with meritorious services to the revolution; 591 were poor and near-poor households under national target programs; 706 were poor and near-poor households outside the target program.

To date, 100% of the houses have been completed and put into use. Each newly built house has an area of 32 - 90m2, ensuring "3 hard" with walls, corrugated iron roof, tiled floor, and toilet. The construction cost is from 60 - 160 million VND. Of which, the Central budget and the Steering Committee for the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses at all levels mobilized benefactors to support new construction of 60 million VND/house, and repair of 30 million VND. The total cost of implementing the program is over 79.7 billion VND.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Ngo Cong Thuc acknowledged and praised the leaders of Tri Ton district and communes and towns. Although the locality has a total number of houses to be built and repaired accounting for over 42.3% of the whole province, with political determination, the locality has implemented quickly, synchronously, drastically and completed on schedule. At the same time, he hopes that in the coming time, the Party Committee and the government will continue to pay attention, review and update the difficult households to have timely support plans, ensuring that no people have to live in temporary or dilapidated houses.

The Vice Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee also hopes that departments and branches will continue to accompany, guide, and support resources, mechanisms, and policies so that the locality can maintain sustainable results. In addition, it is necessary to strengthen propaganda and mobilize people to preserve, renovate, and upgrade their houses, promote internal resources to develop family economy , and sustainably reduce poverty. At the same time, it is necessary to continue to promote the sense of responsibility of the political system and the support of society to replicate the model and support housing for disadvantaged people in other localities of the province.
On this occasion, the People's Committee of Tri Ton district awarded 18 groups and 28 individuals with outstanding achievements in the program of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses; presented symbolic plaques and gifts to 30 exemplary families receiving housing support.
