According to data from market research firm Counterpoint Research , smartphone sales in Vietnam in the first quarter fell 5% compared to the same period last year. Samsung led the market with a 28% market share, although sales fell 13%.
According to analysts, Samsung has postponed the launch of the Galaxy S25 in Vietnam for a few days due to logistics and marketing issues near the Lunar New Year. However, the Korean company is actively launching many Galaxy A models to boost sales.
Xiaomi ranked second in market share (23%), with sales increasing by 9% compared to the same period last year. The Redmi Note 14 series is popular with users, with sales reaching more than 350,000 units. The company also signed an agreement with Mobile World to expand coverage, distribute electronic devices, home appliances and IoT products.
iPhone sales in the first quarter in Vietnam increased 37% compared to the same period last year, helping Apple maintain the third position (market share 17%).
According to Counterpoint Research , the iPhone 16 Pro Max is still Apple's best-selling device in Vietnam, while the iPhone 16e has not attracted much attention. Tet discounts make the iPhone an attractive product for those looking to buy a high-end phone.
Smartphones priced under $200 accounted for only 50% of total sales in Vietnam in the first quarter, the lowest level ever. The availability of multiple payment options, the desire to experience new features and 5G connectivity make users prefer more expensive models.
Data shows that sales of smartphones priced between $200 and $400 increased 19% year-on-year. Samsung led the segment, followed by Oppo.

In the first quarter, 46% of smartphones sold in Vietnam supported 5G. MobiFone was the latest network operator to deploy 5G nationwide in the first quarter, after Viettel and VNPT. According to analysts, network operators have upgraded infrastructure, expanded services and reduced prices to attract users.
Overall, the Vietnamese smartphone market declined in the first quarter, despite growth in the country’s economy and manufacturing sectors. In February, many families tightened their spending after the Lunar New Year holiday, which somewhat affected smartphone sales.
According to Counterpoint Research , the high-end smartphone segment will not be affected by tariffs in the next quarter. The decline in the low-end smartphone market share also shows that users are increasingly spending more to own high-end devices with better features.
“We expect 5G smartphone sales to continue to grow as nationwide coverage expands, making the technology more accessible to more people,” the analysts said.
