In an interview with NBC, Mark Kelly, chairman of the Senate Air and Space Subcommittee, said Israel used a 2,000-pound Mark 84 bomb. This is the first time the US has revealed the type of weapon used in this attack.

The Israeli military said on Saturday it had killed Nasrallah in an airstrike on Hezbollah's main command headquarters in southern Beirut. However, the Israeli military did not disclose what type of weapon was used in the attack.
The United States is a long-time ally of Israel and also the country's largest arms supplier.
The Israeli attack plan had been in the works for months. Israeli military officials had been studying how to penetrate an underground bunker south of Beirut with a series of carefully timed explosions, each one paving the way for the next.
The Beirut attack illustrates an important aspect of the war in Gaza, where Israel is willing to use large bombs to achieve military objectives, including targeting senior Hamas and Hezbollah leaders even in urban areas, regardless of the risk of civilian casualties.
