Sir Jim Ratcliffe lost a large amount of money in the past year.

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has suffered a huge loss, losing £6.5bn in the past 12 months, equivalent to almost a quarter of his total wealth. According to the Sunday Times Rich List , the 72-year-old billionaire's fortune has fallen from £23.5bn to around £17bn.

Ratcliffe, who is currently ranked 7th among the 350 richest people in the UK, said the main reason for the decline in wealth was financial pressure at petrochemicals group INEOS, but insisted this did not affect his role and commitment to the "Red Devils".

INEOS Group acquired a 27.7% stake in the Old Trafford club in February 2024 in an initial deal worth £1.25bn, taking over the entire football division from the Glazer family.

Ratcliffe's reign has not been without its ups and downs. He has sparked controversy with his cost-cutting measures, which have received negative reactions. Ratcliffe has admitted that without "difficult and unpopular" decisions, United could run out of money by the end of the year.

On the pitch, things are not looking good either as MU are currently 16th in the Premier League table. However, they are still in the Europa League final and are set to face Tottenham on May 22.

In addition, Ratcliffe has outlined an ambitious plan to build a new 100,000-seat stadium worth £2 billion. MU is also preparing for the summer transfer window to refresh the squad after unsatisfactory performances.
