The Vinh Te Canal is over 87 km long, connecting Chau Doc and Ha Tien. The canal runs along the border and has played an important role in transportation, irrigation and defense for two centuries. The project was dug almost entirely by human power. Tens of thousands of workers participated in digging the canal under extremely difficult conditions.
Many relics related to Thoai Ngoc Hau - the general responsible for building Vinh Te canal - are located along the canal. Temples, stone steles and ancient pagodas still exist, associated with the land reclamation work. The channel is named after Chau Thi Vinh Te. She is the wife of Thoai Ngoc Hau and has many contributions to people's lives so she is honored.
The canal helps drain water and irrigate the entire border area. The canal system linked to Vinh Te canal helps expand agricultural production in An Giang. The canal was once a line of defense against foreign invaders. Many historic battles took place around the canal area. The canal creates a unique landscape in the That Son region. The canal section passes through mountains and rice fields, creating a poetic waterway that is rarely found elsewhere.
To this day, Vinh Te canal still plays an important role. The project continues to serve daily life, transportation, agriculture and tourism in the border area. Dear readers, please watch the video: Ha Long Bay - Magnificent World Natural Heritage / Quang Ninh TV
