In particular, after more than 5 years of taking effect, the Vietnam - European Union Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) has contributed to helping Vietnamese enterprises in general and Dong Nai enterprises in particular expand exports to Europe.
Large export market
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , the European Union (EU) has a population of over 450 million people and a GDP of 19.4 trillion USD. This is the world's third largest consumer market for agricultural, forestry and fishery products and is currently Vietnam's fourth largest export market, accounting for about 12% of the country's total agricultural, forestry and fishery export turnover. In the first 9 months of 2025, Vietnam's agricultural, forestry and fishery export turnover to the EU reached 7.42 billion USD, an increase of more than 40% over the same period last year.
For Dong Nai, according to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, in the first 9 months of this year, the EU market continued to affirm its position as one of the province's strategic agricultural, forestry and fishery trade partners. Total import-export turnover with this market reached more than 1 billion USD, of which export turnover dominated with 949 million USD. The province's main agricultural, forestry and fishery export items to this market are quite diverse, such as: wood and wood products, coffee, rubber products, cashew nuts, pepper, vegetables, confectionery, etc.
Vice President of Dong Nai Import-Export Association Nguyen Duy Hung commented: Dong Nai agricultural products such as cashew nuts, processed fruits, coffee, pepper, etc. have many strengths to expand the export market to the EU market. Exporting to Europe needs to meet high requirements and standards on quality inspection. Therefore, enterprises exporting to this market need to pay attention and actively grasp information about the market to effectively promote export activities to the EU market.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of Trong Duc Cocoa Company Limited Dang Tuong Khanh (Phu Hoa commune, Dong Nai province) said: Currently, in addition to exporting raw materials and cocoa products to the company's traditional markets such as Japan, Korea..., the company also connects exports, especially for fermented cocoa bean products to the European market.
“Europe is a large market with great potential to develop the local agricultural export market. The company focuses on developing raw material sources, applying clean production standards to production, implementing positioning, growing area codes... to proactively connect and expand consumption and export markets, including the European market in the near future” - Mr. Dang Tuong Khanh added.
At the online workshop on Promoting the export of Vietnamese agricultural, forestry and fishery products to the EU market organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in mid-November 2025, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang emphasized: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to accompany localities, associations and enterprises to access the EU market more effectively and will continue to discuss with EU authorities to remove obstacles and make the most of the opportunities brought by the EVFTA... At the same time, promote technical cooperation and green transformation, support the Vietnamese agricultural, forestry and fishery sector to meet green and sustainable standards.
Focus on green standards
According to many experts, many markets in the world now have higher requirements for imported goods. In particular, the European market is increasingly demanding for imported products, especially the importance of green production factors and environmental protection products.
Mr. Nguyen Cong An, CEO of Eco Technology 2A Joint Stock Company (Tran Bien Ward, Dong Nai Province) - a company providing technology solutions to help enterprises in the rubber, coffee, wood industries... comply with export regulations to the EU market, said: The EU regulation on the production of goods not coming from deforested or degraded lands (EUDR) was issued in June 2023. The goal of EUDR is to prevent deforestation and forest degradation, contribute to environmental protection and mitigate climate change. For this regulation, enterprises must meet traceability to the plantation, enterprises need to collect the exact geographic coordinates of each batch of coffee, rubber, wood... raw materials.
In addition to the challenges, coffee, rubber and wood exporting enterprises will have more opportunities to export to the EU market. By complying with the EUDR, enterprises will increase their reputation and competitiveness, gain trust with EU partners, expand market share and be able to sell at higher prices thanks to transparency and sustainability.
Vice President of Dong Nai Import-Export Association Nguyen Duy Hung added: The standards and conditions for exporting to the EU are not simply regulations on technical barriers but also regulations and standards on environment, society, traceability, packaging standards, etc. These are the contents that businesses need to pay attention to. In addition, local businesses also need to update and master the regulations related to free trade agreements, especially the EVFTA. Because in this agreement, standards on green production and ensuring traceability are one of the factors that ensure the commitment of businesses to the market and product quality.
Ms. Tran Mac Van Anh, representative of Medifood.IO Co., Ltd. (Nha Bich commune, Dong Nai province) said: The company considers Europe a market with great potential to expand export channels, especially for nutritional bar products. In addition to constantly improving quality, the company proactively uses packaging that meets environmental protection standards, thereby being ready to connect with partners and develop potential markets in Europe.
