To help the less fortunate, the locality has implemented many community engagement models to help people.
Timely to the needy
In the 2024-2025 school year, a young female teacher at Huynh Van Nghe Secondary and High School had to undergo cancer treatment. This teacher's family was not well off, so when she had to undergo treatment, difficulties piled on top of difficulties. Based on that reality, the school had many activities to help her.
Upon hearing the news, the district Red Cross Society investigated her situation and mobilized 15 million VND in initial support to help her have more conditions for treatment.
The Red Cross Society of Vinh Cuu district currently has 17 grassroots associations with 105 grassroots branches and 447 groups. The Red Cross Society at all levels in the district has also established 10 Red Cross youth teams and 14 Red Cross first aid points.
Also during the campaign to support the young teacher of Huynh Van Nghe Secondary and High School, 5 families of elderly people living alone and those with special difficulties were also given 5 million VND/family by the District Red Cross Association. This money was used by the people to take care of their children's education or to do small business at home.
As one of the five cases receiving support from the District Red Cross Association, Ms. Hai Thu (residing in Phu Ly commune) said that she is old, has many illnesses and her family is very poor, so when she received the support money, she was very happy.
Chairwoman of the Vinh Cuu District Red Cross Society Do Thi Tuyet Hong said that for those in need of assistance, after verifying the information, the society mobilizes donors to provide assistance. Because there are specific addresses and circumstances and 100% of the mobilized value is transferred to those in need, over the past time, donors have placed their trust in the humanitarian activities carried out by the Red Cross Society at all levels. Therefore, when there is a case in need of assistance, donors contribute immediately upon the association's call.
Thanks to this active participation, on average each year, the Vinh Cuu District Red Cross Society has mobilized over 15 billion VND to carry out relief and humanitarian aid activities.
Ms. Do Thi Tuyet Hong added that the locality has many people from other places who come to rent houses and rooms to work in factories, farms, and production areas. Most of them are in difficult circumstances, there are cases where the whole family comes to Vinh Cuu district, but there are also cases where they come alone, especially the elderly. During the working process, unfortunately they pass away and have no relatives by their side. There are cases where even though they have relatives, due to extreme difficulties, the family cannot arrange the funeral themselves...
From that reality, the district and commune Red Cross Associations have strongly connected with officials to participate in 6 burial assistance teams. This is the district Red Cross Association with the largest number of burial assistance teams in the province. These teams grasp information to promptly support burial and transport the bodies of the deceased back to their hometowns according to their wishes. In the past time, the district and commune Red Cross Associations have assisted in the burial of 111 poor people and people without relatives when they passed away.
Many effective humanitarian models
In addition to implementing immediate relief activities, the Red Cross Association at all levels in Vinh Cuu district also maintains many humanitarian models that have been positively received by the people. It is noteworthy that in the process of implementing humanitarian models, the Red Cross Association at the district and commune levels has flexibly adjusted the content to suit the actual conditions in the locality and the people's expectations.
Through the Campaign "Each organization, each individual is associated with a humanitarian address", the Red Cross chapters at all levels in Vinh Cuu district have connected 56 groups and individuals to support 242 humanitarian addresses with a total annual aid value of over 508 million VND.
Specifically, during the implementation of the Cow Bank Project, the district and commune Red Cross Associations have supported 12 disadvantaged households to borrow capital to raise livestock to create annual livelihoods, with each family receiving 15 million VND. For families who are no longer able to provide food for their cows or have no place to graze them, depending on the situation, the district and commune Red Cross Associations, instead of giving breeding cows, have converted them into other livestock that the family desires. This is the flexibility of the Red Cross Associations at all levels of Vinh Cuu district in helping people create livelihoods suitable to the conditions of each different residential area.
As for the model of Porridge and Rice Pot of Love, each year, the Red Cross Association of the district and commune arranges nearly 11,000 meals worth over 131 million VND to support patients and relatives receiving treatment at the District Medical Center. In addition to this specific address, during the distribution of meals, the Red Cross Association of the district and commune also allocates a certain number to support freelance workers who are lottery ticket vendors and porters. In the process of gathering information from schools, students with difficult family circumstances, whose homes are far from school, and whose parents work all day and cannot provide meals for them on time, are also supported with lunch. Although the meals are not of high material value, they demonstrate the concern and encouragement for students to overcome difficulties to go to school.
With the local characteristics of having residential areas consisting of floating houses on Tri An Lake or along the lake, many of these families are in difficult circumstances, so in addition to connecting with donors to give gifts to these cases, the District Red Cross Association also mobilized donors to repair damaged floating houses, donate solar energy equipment, water tanks, etc. to the people.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu said that his family lives on a raft village in Tri An Lake (Phu Ly Commune). When his child was old enough to go to school, he drove a boat to take him to shore so that he could ride his friend's bicycle to school. Sometimes, because of rain or because he was busy fishing, he brought his child to shore late, and his friends had already gone to school. Thanks to the mobilization of the district and commune Red Cross Association, his child was given a bicycle so that he could take his child to school on his own when he got to shore.
