Can bad breath of unknown cause be cured?

I am 33 years old and have had bad breath for several years now, even though I brush my teeth regularly every day. I have been to several places for check-ups but the cause of my bad breath is still unclear. I have mild grade A gastroesophageal reflux disease. Could this be the cause of my bad breath? Is there any way to completely treat these diseases because I feel very unconfident when communicating? Thank you!

Hello!

Persistent bad breath despite good oral hygiene is a condition that many people experience and can cause a loss of confidence when communicating. In some cases, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), even if mild as you describe, can be a contributing factor to bad breath.

When acid from the stomach refluxes into the esophagus and oral cavity, it damages the mucosa, creating a favorable environment for odor-causing bacteria to grow, and also causing a feeling of dry mouth.

However, bad breath caused by acid reflux can be completely controlled if you treat it properly. Gastric acid secretion inhibitors (PPIs) combined with lifestyle adjustments such as a reasonable diet; avoiding spicy, fatty, sour foods; not lying down immediately after eating and maintaining a reasonable weight will significantly reduce symptoms.

In addition, bad breath is often caused by a combination of factors such as tooth decay, gingivitis, sinusitis or chronic pharyngitis. Therefore, you should see a dentist or ENT specialist for timely diagnosis and treatment.

In addition to treating the disease, maintaining thorough oral hygiene by cleaning the tongue, between teeth, rinsing with diluted salt water and keeping the body hydrated is also very important to limit unpleasant odors. Combining treatment of the cause and supportive measures will help you significantly improve your breath and regain confidence in communication.

Wish you soon healthy and more confident in life.
