Western tourists share surprising things when eating fish sauce dishes in Ho Chi Minh City

On the evening of October 23, when he and his friends went to Nguyen Hue walking street (District 1) to have fun, they accidentally saw this fish sauce festival so they were curious to experience it.

Here, the French man not only got to visit and learn about the traditional fish sauces in Vietnam on display, but also enjoyed dishes using this special spice.

Ordering the Western-style banh khot and fried shrimp cakes, Mr. Thomas dipped the cakes in a generous amount of fish sauce and enjoyed them with a variety of fresh vegetables. He said the dishes suited his taste, especially the slightly sweet fish sauce.

"Since I was little, I have known about Vietnamese fish sauce. In France, there are many famous Vietnamese dishes that I really like and most of them are eaten with this fish sauce. The interesting thing is that with each different dish, the way to make the fish sauce to eat with it is also different, I feel that and really like this spice", the Western guest expressed.

Living in France, Mr. Thomas has known fish sauce since he was a child.

With his culinary experiences, Mr. Thomas said that fish sauce when eaten with Vietnamese dishes will be more delicious and suitable than when used to prepare European dishes. That is quite interesting.

Next door, Ms. Ngoc Lan (residing in Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City) said that Mr. Thomas and her French husband are close friends. Her husband also likes Vietnamese dishes served with fish sauce.

Ms. Lan's group happily chatted and enjoyed the dishes at this fish sauce festival and said that everyone also tried the traditional cakes introduced here.

Visiting the fish sauce festival with her boyfriend, Maria could not hide her excitement. The French girl said that in the place where she lives, fish sauce is known to many people because it is an indispensable spice when preparing Asian dishes, especially Vietnamese dishes.

Maria also bought fish sauce to prepare Vietnamese dishes when she lived in France.

"In France, I also bought fish sauce to cook Vietnamese dishes. My boyfriend and I were traveling in Ho Chi Minh City and happened to see this festival so we went to explore . I really enjoyed the dishes sold here as well as the bustling atmosphere," she said.

Mrs. Jan, a British tourist and her husband, out of curiosity, visited this fish sauce festival. She said that fish sauce is a very special spice. She had known about this spice before.

The woman said that during this trip to Vietnam, she and her husband will definitely enjoy Vietnamese dishes made from fish sauce, hoping to have interesting culinary experiences.
