On the afternoon of August 4, Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group ( VNPT ) put into operation the VSTN international land cable system.

The VSTN international land cable system is a completely land-based transmission line, more than 3,900km long, connecting from the VNPT technical center in Da Nang to major data centers in the ASEAN region, such as Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Laos.

Unlike submarine fiber optic cables that are prone to problems and take a long time to fix, VSTN helps minimize the risk of disruption thanks to its transcontinental road design and the ability to control the entire route.

In particular, VNPT directly manages and operates the cable line from the Vietnamese end to the international connection point, ensuring proactive incident handling, increasing reliability and information security.

The cable line uses DWDM wavelength division multiplexing technology - one of the most advanced transmission technologies today.

Each wavelength has a minimum capacity of 300 Gbps, with a total designed capacity of the entire line of 4 Tbps, which can be flexibly upgraded to 12 Tbps or higher, meeting the requirements of digital services such as high-speed internet, cloud computing, AI, digital finance, online conferences, etc.

According to VNPT Group General Director Huynh Quang Liem, the new cable route not only increases connection capacity but also creates a stable and safe transmission route, minimizing the risk of connection loss when incidents occur with submarine cables.

In the coming time, the VSTN submarine cable will continue to be invested in and developed to become the lifeline connecting many international POP internet add/drop points in Laos, Thailand, and Malaysia.

Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized that since 1996, there has never been an international cable line owned entirely by Vietnam. This is the first line invested in and owned entirely by Vietnamese people and Vietnamese enterprises.

Minister Nguyen Manh Hung hopes that domestic network operators will continue to build many similar international fiber optic cable lines in the near future.
