Phuoc Thanh Pagoda (also known as Chim Pagoda) is located on Cu Lao Gieng, Cu Lao Gieng Commune, An Giang Province - formerly Binh Phuoc Xuan Commune, Cho Moi District, An Giang.

Legend has it that after nine years of practicing in the Bay Nui region, monk Thich Buu Duc returned to his homeland. One day, a pair of flamingos flew back from Bay Nui, followed by thousands of other birds circling the sky, as if to herald good fortune.

Realizing the sacredness, monk Thich Buu Duc chose this place to build a pagoda in 1872. Since then, the name Chim Pagoda has entered the folk life, associated with the memories of many generations. Not only a place for religious practice, Chim Pagoda was also a base to protect revolutionary forces during the two resistance wars against France and the US. Bombs and bullets damaged the pagoda many times, but thanks to the perseverance of Buddhists and people, the pagoda was still preserved.

In 1973, the pagoda was rebuilt and in 2005 underwent a comprehensive renovation, expanding the area to more than 4,000 ^m2 , creating the spacious and majestic appearance it has today.

The most prominent structure of Phuoc Thanh Pagoda is the 39-meter-high Amitabha Buddha statue, along with 48 Bodhisattva statues, each 5 meters high, started in 2012 and completed in 2016.

The project was carried out by artist Pham Van Hai and his assistant, Buddhist nun Nhu Tho, under the architectural and artistic direction of monk Thich Hue Tai. In front of the pagoda, there are two winding corridors like "overpasses" leading up, helping visitors easily look up at the Amitabha Buddha statue in all its majesty and grandeur.

In the temple grounds, at the foot of the statue, there are white stone simulations recreating Turtle Tower, One Pillar Pagoda, Ha Long Bay, Phu Tu Islet... All create a space that is both intimate and unique, making Chim Pagoda a unique Buddhist work in the West.

The majestic architecture and quiet space make me feel like I have let go of all my daily worries."
