Vietnam Drama Theater has just released Inspector Quan - a comedy by famous Russian writer Nikolay Vasilyevich Gogol (1809-1852) and had its first performance on the evening of October 3, in Hanoi .
The Inspector General was first published in 1836. The play was written by Nikolay Vasilyevich Gogol based on some suggestions from his senior writer Pushkin.
The play "Inspector" has the participation of many artists of the Vietnam Drama Theater.
The story is about a small civil servant who wanders into a southern town and is mistaken for an inspector from the capital Petersburg on an inspection tour. The once peaceful town is suddenly turned upside down. The local officials, who are all corrupt, are extremely afraid and try to bribe the inspector in every way.
Although the story takes place in a remote area, Gogol's Inspector General exposes the nature of the cumbersome and corrupt bureaucracy under the Tsarist regime. It is worth mentioning that the play deals with the issues of corruption, power-buying, bribery... which are very close to the reality of Vietnamese society.
The play was edited and directed by Dr. Le Manh Hung. With the participation of: Meritorious Artist Xuan Bac, Meritorious Artist Minh Hieu, Meritorious Artist Trinh Mai Nguyen, Meritorious Artist Hoang Lam Tung, artists Ho Lien, Hong Quang...
In addition, the play also brings together many talented faces such as: Hong Phuc, Ha Vy, Phung Khanh Linh, Than Thanh Giang, Hoang Nhat, The Nguyen, Thanh Thien, Ngan Hoa, Khuat Quynh Hoa,...
In the play, Meritorious Artist Xuan Bac plays the role of a fake inspector - a swindler and a scoundrel. On stage, he and his colleagues performed gracefully, with consistent quality. Although the script was foreign, the artists performed in a "very Vietnamese" way, making it easy for the audience to feel and watch.
On stage, the artists made the audience laugh out loud with the stories of confusion and tragicomedy situations between local officials and the fake Inspector.
Details such as: letting students drink blackboard-erasing water, education officials speaking with a lisp... were cleverly inserted to delight the audience.
Meritorious Artist Xuan Bac, Director of the Vietnam Drama Theater, said that this is a very difficult play, and the approach is also new. This is a rare occasion when the Theater has to "release" the entire cast, including the Board of Directors and leaders of the Theater to ensure the quality of the work.
"The play is close to Vietnamese audiences in every small detail such as the image of the cat's eyes, the manholes and the rats on stage. These are metaphorical images of the tribute of subordinates to superiors.
We also put a black carpet on stage to help the audience imagine it as a Cheo performance, as if we were telling a Vietnamese folk story," Meritorious Artist Xuan Bac shared.
The director of the Vietnam Drama Theater added that the play still has a modern and youthful feel because the crew is creative with many images close to contemporary life.
"The fake inspector was forced by everyone to become a real inspector, combined with the character's cunning, there were many "half-laughing, half-crying" situations.
The director cleverly used the image of chairs to talk about the greed of local officials in the play. They kept their chairs at all costs, but in the end, when the truth was revealed, they felt a lot of shame and torment," said Meritorious Artist Xuan Bac.
The play Inspector will be performed on October 14-20 at the Vietnam Drama Theater.
