Abundant potential

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, in 2024, the total rice planting area will be about 618,600 hectares, with an output of nearly 4.072 million tons. In addition, the total area of flowers and fruit trees will be 48,800 hectares and 20,500 hectares, respectively; the total output of aquaculture is estimated at nearly 700,000 tons, of which pangasius is about 583,000 tons.

The agricultural sector has supported the issuance of 564 growing area codes, with a total area of 19,766 hectares, serving the export needs to the markets: Australia, the United States, New Zealand, Russia, Europe, Korea, China... In addition, 1 code for a sweet potato packaging facility exported to the Chinese market of An Giang Fruit and Vegetable Food Joint Stock Company (Antesco) has been issued. This is a favorable condition for developing the chain of consumption and processing of agricultural products in the province.

According to Antesco Company, the unit has cooperated with the Department of Agriculture and Environment and the Provincial Farmers' Association to sign a cooperation agreement to build and create a raw material area with an area of 10,000 hectares. Currently, the company has signed a direct agreement with farmers in the districts of Phu Tan, Cho Moi, An Phu to consume and build raw material areas for key products such as: Baby corn, vegetable soybeans, sweet corn, mangoes, Taiwanese mangoes. Thanks to that, the company has a stable raw material area, can well control the quantity, quality, pesticide residues... to meet the strict demands of the market.

Need to actively support businesses to participate in production linkages and expand raw material areas

With the above advantages, Hanh Phuc Rice Factory (Tan Long Group), with the support of the Provincial People's Committee, specialized sectors and localities, has linked production and consumption of high-quality rice with 15 cooperatives in the province, mainly in the districts of Tri Ton, Thoai Son, Chau Thanh, Phu Tan. According to the plan, the company will link production with an area of over 10,000 hectares in 2025, contributing to bringing An Giang rice to conquer demanding markets.

In addition to the above units, An Giang's agricultural sector also supports many enterprises inside and outside the province to link production, consumption and processing of the province's agricultural products. For rice alone, the linked area in 2024 will reach about 74,623 hectares, accounting for 12.1% of the total cultivated area. Notably, An Giang also has 2 rice products achieving 5-star OCOP (One Commune One Product Program) at the national level; 1 rice product, 2 rice wine products and 1 brown rice and cereal bar product achieving 3-star OCOP.

Enhance the solution

Although proactively implementing many solutions to promote linkages in consumption and processing of agricultural products in the province, An Giang's agricultural sector still faces difficulties, such as: Mechanisms and policies to attract and invite businesses are not really attractive; the capacity of cooperatives is still limited, making it difficult to form linkage chains; the logistics system in agriculture in the province is still limited, significantly affecting investment in this field.

Enterprises propose that sectors and localities step up propaganda and change farmers' awareness in participating in production and consumption linkages, aiming to create large raw material areas. Maintaining "credibility" in the process of production and consumption linkages has not met requirements. In particular, the work of building growing area codes has not received due attention from cooperatives, cooperative groups and farmers, causing difficulties for the export process.

An Giang's agricultural sector has proposed that the Provincial People's Committee issue specific mechanisms and policies to create a favorable environment to attract and promote businesses to invest in the locality. Develop industrial zones dedicated to agricultural processing, as well as invest in synchronous infrastructure to meet development needs. Regularly meet and dialogue with businesses and farmers to promptly resolve difficulties and obstacles. Strengthen the introduction of the province's agricultural potential and strengths to attract businesses to An Giang.

To improve the efficiency of agricultural product consumption and processing linkage activities, the Provincial People's Committee requires the agricultural sector to promote the application of clean agriculture, green agriculture, and organic agriculture standards to meet market demand, helping to increase product value. Regularly coordinate with localities to support and connect with enterprises to build large raw material areas according to business needs. Actively build growing area codes to implement traceability, serving exports. Strengthen support for farmers, cooperatives and enterprises in the process of participating in production linkage, expanding raw material areas.
