Affirming solidarity and attachment between Vietnam and Cuba

On the occasion of the high-ranking delegations of Cuba and Vietnam attending the ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Cuban leader Fidel Castro's visit to the liberated zone of South Vietnam (September 1973 - September 2023), on the afternoon of September 25, Comrade Esteban Lazo Hernandez, Politburo member, President of the National Assembly of the People's Government and the Council of State of Cuba, and other comrades in the delegation visited and worked in Quang Binh.

Attending the event were comrade Nguyen Dac Vinh, member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for Culture andEducation ; comrade Vu Dai Thang, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Quang Binh province, along with leaders and former leaders of central departments, ministries and branches and comrades in the high-ranking delegations of Cuba and Vietnam.

Speaking at the meeting, Provincial Party Secretary Vu Dai Thang expressed his honor to welcome Comrade Esteban Lazo Hernandez and members of the delegation to visit and work in Quang Binh . Comrade Vu Dai Thang emphasized that 50 years ago, Quang Binh province was very honored and proud to welcome Cuban leader Fidel Castro to visit Quang Binh and the liberated area of Southern Vietnam. This was the first and only visit of a foreign head of state to the liberated area of Southern Vietnam. The visit has become a historical milestone and a typical symbol of the Vietnam-Cuba brotherly relationship, affirming the solidarity in the same trenches and the strong support and assistance of the Cuban Government and people to the Vietnamese people in the resistance war against the US to save the country and to build the country after the war.

Provincial Party Secretary Vu Dai Thang affirmed that the Party Committee, government and people of Quang Binh province will forever cherish and remember the noble sentiments, selfless, pure and brotherly assistance that Cuba, headed by leader Fidel Castro, gave to Quang Binh and the liberated areas of South Vietnam during the most difficult and fierce times.

Comrade Vu Dai Thang shared that within the framework of the visit and work of National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue to Cuba at the end of April 2023, the People's Committee of Quang Binh province signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Cuba on cooperation in the field of health; signed a Letter of Intent on establishing friendly and cooperative relations with Santiago de Cuba province.

The Secretary of the Quang Binh Provincial Party Committee sincerely thanks the Cuban State and people for their sincere sentiments in the past time, for continuing to send medical experts to work at the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Hospital - Dong Hoi, and sending experts in various construction fields to supervise important projects in Vietnam. In the coming time, Quang Binh province will continue to propagate and educate the younger generations about the tradition of cooperation, friendship, and good sentiments between the two Parties, two States and peoples of the two countries, especially the pure international sentiments of comrade, true communist Fidel Castro. This is a priceless spiritual asset that needs to be protected and promoted in the process of development of the province. Quang Binh also hopes to continue to receive the attention and support of the Cuban State and people in the coming time.

Also at the meeting, delegates heard those who had met and interacted with leader Fidel Castro when he visited the liberated areas of South Vietnam share sincere stories and their love for comrade Fidel Castro and the Cuban people.

Comrade Esteban Lazo Hernandez shared that from 1996 until now, he has visited Vietnam 4 times. Each time he visits Vietnam, he is very happy to witness the strong changes of the brotherly country of Vietnam. He said that this return to Vietnam coincides with the 50th anniversary of the visit of leader Fidel Castro to the liberated zone of South Vietnam, which is an extremely meaningful historical milestone, affirming the solidarity and closeness between the two peoples.

Earlier, Comrade Esteban Lazo Hernandez and members of the delegation laid flowers and paid tribute at the statue of Cuban President Fidel Castro in the grounds of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi; visited and encouraged patients being treated there./.
