In the context of widespread antibiotic abuse in poultry farming, the research team led by Associate Professor, Dr. Ha Phuong Thu (Institute of Materials Science , Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) has completed the project "Research and development of plant nano antibiotics, nano antibiotics and evaluation of their effectiveness for application in poultry farming".

The research team has created many new types of nano antibiotics, including nano antibiotics from herbs such as garlic, Phyllanthus urinaria and synthetic nano antibiotics. The nanoparticles are extremely small in size, highly stable and have the ability to release active ingredients over time. Laboratory tests have shown that the preparations can kill even drug-resistant bacteria, a current problem in animal husbandry.

The products were tested at a broiler farm in Bac Ninh province (formerly Hiep Hoa district, Bac Giang province). Initial results showed: The required dose of antibiotics was reduced by 10 times compared to the control group. The survival rate of the chicken flock reached 98%, higher than the 94% of the control group. Antibiotic residues in meat were significantly reduced, to only 35 µg/kg compared to 197 µg/kg in the control flock.

The research team has completed the production process at a pilot scale of 100 liters/batch and published 2 patents and many related scientific publications.

According to the research team, nano-preparations can be transferred into practice to reduce the use of traditional antibiotics, limit residues in food and reduce the risk of antibiotic resistance. This technology also opens up opportunities to develop materials, equipment and production processes in line with the direction of green and safe livestock farming.

The results of the project show that nanotechnology can create a breakthrough in disease control and reduce antibiotic dependence in livestock farming. When widely applied, these products will contribute to building a safe agriculture, reducing pollution and protecting consumer health.
