Narrow window for candidates applying with combination C00

A series of universities and academies have announced their expected enrollment plans for 2026. Candidates should pay special attention to new points, including the tendency to "say no" to the C00 group (Literature, History, Geography).

"White" military school block C00?

The Political Officer School informed that from 2026, the 4 admission groups include: C01 (Literature, Mathematics, Physics), C03 (Literature, Mathematics, History), C04 (Literature, Mathematics, Geography) and D01 (Literature, Mathematics, English). Compared to 2025, the school has removed the admission groups C00 (Literature, History, Geography) and A00 (Math, Physics, Chemistry).

Similarly, in 2026, the Border Guard Academy will remove the two traditional combinations C00 and A01 (Math, Physics, English) and only use three admission combinations C03, C04 and D01 for the Border Guard and Law majors.

Mr. Le Dinh Nam - Assistant to the Training Department, Border Guard Academy explained the reason for the school's adjustment is because according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training , the admission combination must include at least three subjects, of which Math or Literature must be required with a weighted score of not less than 25%. From 2026, the common subjects of the combination must contribute at least 50% of the weighted score.

Thus, to be suitable, the school takes Literature and Mathematics as the core subjects in the admission combinations. These are two compulsory subjects in the high school graduation exam, so 100% of candidates take the exam. The third subject is flexibly changed depending on the training major. This is considered the optimal solution, agreed by many experts to help ensure the rights of candidates, while being suitable for the training major's characteristics and admission needs.

Looking back to 2025, among the 20 military schools using 13 admission combinations, only the Political Officer School and the Border Guard Academy recruit group C00. From early admission information of military schools, it is very likely that in 2026 there will be no military schools recruiting the traditional social subject group C00.

The traditional C00 complex is absent in the social sciences and humanities block.

The Academy of Journalism and Communication has just announced that it will no longer consider the C00 combination. Geography is also completely absent from the admission combination of all training majors. The school divides 4 groups of majors, each group considering a certain number of combinations.

The University of Law - Vietnam National University, Hanoi said it will not consider the C00 and A00 combinations. Instead, the school will enroll students based on 6 combinations: C03; A01; D01; D14 (Literature, History, English); D15 (Literature, Geography, English) and A07 (Math, History, Geography).

Candidates are currently waiting for other universities to announce their expected admission plans for 2026 so that they can plan their exam registration and review accordingly, especially those who plan to take the C00 combination and focus on studying and reviewing these subjects right from high school. Experts predict that the number of schools and majors that do not take the C00 combination may increase in the coming time to suit training practices and the goal of internationalizing the training program. This is the autonomy of schools as decided by the Law on Higher Education.  

However, according to delegate Nguyen Thi Thuy (Thai Nguyen delegation), in order to avoid a similar situation as in 2025, when universities suddenly announced to stop considering the C00 combination when there is less than 1 month left for the 2025 high school graduation exam, it is necessary to add a principle in enrollment and training activities. That is, enrollment activities, along with ensuring the autonomy of universities, must ensure the legitimate rights of candidates. Ms. Thuy proposed to add the authority of the Ministry of Education and Training in this case to truly comply with the philosophy of putting learners at the center.

The deadline for training institutions to complete the announcement of enrollment information on the training institution's website is February 15, 2026. From July 2 to 5:00 p.m. on July 14, 2026, candidates will register for university admission.

The 2026 high school graduation exam will test 4 subjects, including 2 compulsory subjects: Math and Literature, along with 2 elective subjects from the remaining subjects: Foreign Language, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Economic and Legal Education, Information Technology, Technology. Candidates will choose 2 elective subjects from these to create their exam.
