Returning after a long absence, designer Thuy Nguyen presented five collections titled "Oh, Oh, Oh! " at Fashion Voyage. Inspired by East Asian aesthetics and traditional materials characteristic of Thuy Nguyen's design style, the collection created a serene atmosphere amidst the sunset over the sea. The combination of music and fashion offered a multi-sensory experience for viewers. While the vedette's performance may not have met professional standards, it was nonetheless full of emotion.

On the 800-meter runway, designer Thuy Nguyen painted a vibrant fashion picture using traditional materials such as brocade and silk, along with her love for family and country.

Drawing inspiration from the beauty of nature, the designer meticulously selected materials and silhouettes. The garments, made from lightweight, flowing fabrics like silk and organza, often feature short skirts and A-line dresses. With the sea breeze, the models walk amidst the ethereal movement of the materials, creating a romantic and dreamy atmosphere reminiscent of a twilight evening.

Conversely, the sturdy nature of the exquisite brocade fabric creates an alluring beauty for the designs of the ao dai, skirt, etc. It's evident that Thuy Nguyen's affection for her homeland in Northern Vietnam is expressed in the "Oi a oi a" collection through the structured ao dai, skirt, bodice, four-panel dress, the characteristic headpiece, and wooden clogs. Images of the country are spread from North to South by Thuy Nguyen, with designs featuring mandarin collars and variations of flapper skirts reminiscent of Saigon in the 60s and 70s also appearing in the collection.

With the experience of a professionally trained visual artist, Thuy Nguyen knows how to create a visually stunning experience for viewers. The vibrant color palette of "Oi a Oi A" easily brings out the full beauty of sunset tones such as purple, red, orange, and pink. Ruffles and layering details accentuate the wearer's figure without resorting to form-fitting designs.

To speak of Thuy Nguyen is to speak of Vietnam. From "Lung Lieng ," "Tinh Tang ," to "Mong Mi ," her collections are associated with designs based on the ao dai and ao tu than (traditional Vietnamese dresses)... along with motifs rich in national identity. However, in "Oi A Oi A ," Thuy Nguyen seems to have broken free from her previous Westernized design style. The combination of bohemian and hippie-inspired fringe details from the West with traditional Vietnamese clothing has created a distinctive feature for the collection.

“For me, culturally significant clothing is like a memento of the past. We experienced things we've forgotten. Therefore, my job is to make those things more contemporary, evoking memories of what happened. I think traditional clothing can't compete with modern designs. However, it's a memory, a culture that people will surely never lose,” designer Thuy Nguyen shared.

Deep emotions are evoked through the sound and the models.

From the very first seconds when Le Hoang Phuong opened the show as the first-face, the lyrics "Lovers exchange clothes/When home, mother asks, 'The wind blew across the bridge'" transported viewers to Thuy Nguyen's distinctly Northern Vietnamese "home." The combination of music and designs created a warm atmosphere, imbued with the sentiment of family love that the designer intended.

"Music on the runway is just as essential as any other element. Background music with an overly fast tempo shouldn't be chosen as it can easily distract and overwhelm the audience," Fashion Gone Rogue asserts. Therefore, the melodious tunes of Northern Vietnamese folk songs or Vietnamese music in my heart are not only culturally significant but also create a familiar and pleasant feeling for the viewers.

The models walked the runway in traditional Vietnamese ao dai, ao tu than, or yếm đào dresses amidst Italian architecture, creating an impressive moment of cultural fusion. Most of them were lesser-known names like Kim Phuong, Nguyen Hop, Hang Nguyen, and a number of younger models. This didn't make the show boring; instead, it felt effortless and unforced to stand out.

To conclude the show, Thuy Nguyen placed the spirit and inspiration of the collection into the role of the vedette. Taking on the role of closing the show, Ngoc Chau strutted down the runway in a catwalk performance alongside her mother, Ms. Bay .

The image of Ngoc Chau holding her mother's hand as they walked together evoked strong emotions and generated enthusiastic audience reaction at the end of the show. The mother-daughter duo conveyed the family theme of "Oh, Oh, Oh!" and traditional colors through their ao dai dresses printed with cultural motifs. Although somewhat different from the overall concept of the previous designs, the two ao dai dresses returned to the original beauty of the ao dai and created a sense of familiarity.

However, this was also a rather problematic detail in the overall show. Besides the traditional dress, Ngoc Chau wore a lavish cape at the back, making herself stand out in a conspicuously obvious way. This is quite limiting in catwalk shows with children that require a certain degree of harmony. Some models like Huong Giang, Xuan Lan, or Hong Que have performed as vedettes with children, but they chose more appropriate and balanced outfits.

However, the image of Ngoc Chau and her mother completing their performance on the 800-meter runway moved many people. Without her mother's presence, Ngoc Chau's position as the vedette would hardly have evoked as much emotion as it did then.

It can be said that Thuy Nguyen delivered a multi-sensory experience with a wide range of emotions through her "Oh, Oh, Oh!" collection. Audiences had the opportunity to admire the beauty of Vietnamese culture, celebrated by the country's natural landscapes, and the modernity of the West. The finale moment featuring Ngoc Chau and her mother became a highlight of the entire show.
