Returning after a long absence, designer Thuy Nguyen brings to Fashion Voyage 5 a collection called ỵ a ơi a . The Asian inspiration and traditional materials typical of Thuy Nguyen's design style create a deep space between the sunset sky and sea. The combination of music and fashion brings a multi-sensory experience to the audience. The vedette's performance, although not professional, was full of emotion.

Brocade fluttering in the sea breeze

On the 800m long runway, designer Thuy Nguyen painted a vivid fashion picture from traditional materials such as brocade, silk,... with love for family and country.

Taking advantage of the beauty of nature, the designer has carefully calculated the selection of materials and shapes. The outfits are made from light, flowing materials such as silk, organza, etc., often appearing on short skirts and flared dresses. With the wind from the sea, the models walk in the floating movements of the material, bringing a romantic and poetic feeling in the afternoon.

On the contrary, the solidity of the sophisticated brocade material creates an attractive beauty for the designs of ao dai, skirts, etc. It can be seen that Thuy Nguyen's affection for her Northern homeland is expressed in the collection "Oi a oi a" through the standing ao dai, skirts, yếm đào, áo tứ thân, the typical style of the turban and wooden clogs. The image of the country is spread by Thuy Nguyen from North to South when the designs of the mandarin collar shirt or the variation of the flapper dress with the Saigon vibe of the 60s and 70s also appear in the collection.

With the experience of an internationally trained visual artist, Thuy Nguyen knows how to create a satisfying experience for the viewer. The vibrant color palette of Oi a oi a easily brings out the full beauty with typical sunset tones such as purple, red, orange, pink,... The ruffles and layers evoke the beauty of the wearer's body without having to "touch" the tight shape.

Speaking of Thuy Nguyen is speaking of Vietnam. From Lung Lieng , Tinh Tang or Mong Mi , her collections are associated with costumes designed based on Ao Dai, Ao Tu Than... with motifs imbued with national identity. However, at Oi A Oi A , Thuy Nguyen seems to have escaped from her previous shadow when Westernizing her design style. The combination of Western bohemian, hippie fringe details into traditional Vietnamese costumes has created a difference for the collection.

“For me, costumes with strong cultural identity are like memories of the past. We have experienced things that we have forgotten. Therefore, my job is to make those things more contemporary, reminding us of what happened. I think traditional costumes cannot compete with modern designs. However, they are memories and cultures that people will certainly never lose,” designer Thuy Nguyen shared.

Deep emotions through sound and modeling

From the first seconds when Le Hoang Phuong opened the show as first-face, the lyrics "Love each other, take off your shirt for each other/Come home, mom, ask if you cross the bridge, the wind will fly " brought the audience to Thuy Nguyen's "house" with a strong Northern character. The combination of music and designs creates a cozy space with the element of family love that the designer has conveyed.

“Music on the catwalk is as important as any other element. You should not choose background music with a rhythm that is too fast because it can easily distract the audience and make them feel suffocated,” Fashion Gone Rogue asserts. Therefore, the melodious melody of Northern folk songs or Vietnamese music in my opinion is not only culturally important but also creates a familiar, comfortable feeling for the audience.

The models walked in Ao Dai, Ao Tu Than or Ao Yem Dao among the Italian architecture, creating an impressive moment of cultural exchange. They were mostly not-so-big names like Kim Phuong, Nguyen Hop, Hang Nguyen,... and some young models. This did not make the show boring, instead it was gentle, not trying too hard to stand out.

Closing the show, Thuy Nguyen placed the spirit and inspiration of the collection in the vedette position. Taking on the role of closing the show, Ngoc Chau strode down the runway in a double catwalk with Ma Bay - her mother.

The image of Ngoc Chau holding her mother's hand while walking brought effective emotions and a warm audience effect at the end of the program. The mother and daughter duo conveyed the family theme of ỵ a ơi a and traditional colors through the Ao Dai costumes printed with cultural motifs. Although somewhat different from the general concept of the previous series of designs, the two Ao Dai returned to the original beauty of the Ao Dai and created a familiar feeling.

However, this is also a rather inappropriate detail in the entire show. In addition to the ao dai, Ngoc Chau wore a gorgeous cape behind her, making herself stand out in an obvious way. This is quite limited in the couple catwalks that require a certain harmony. Some faces such as Huong Giang, Xuan Lan or Hong Que have performed as vedette with children but chose more suitable and balanced outfits.

However, the image of Ngoc Chau and her mother completing the performance on the 800m long runway moved many people. Without her mother's presence, Ngoc Chau's vedette position would hardly have left as many emotions as it did now.
