Last weekend, on April 5, Bien Hai group organized the premiere of the documentary film “Southern Sea and Island Chronicle”. The film leads viewers to explore Phu Quoc not only from a tourism perspective but also in the historical context of the exploration of Ha Tien, with the imprints of Mr. Mac Cuu’s contributions during this period. Combining real images, historical documents and meaningful messages, “Southern Sea and Island Chronicle” demonstrates the patriotism as well as the responsibility to protect the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the young generation.
The film was made by a group of students Mai Linh Nhu, Pham Dao Hai Duong , Huynh Cao Minh Thong and Le Huynh Cam Thy under the guidance of teacher Luong Hoang Nam. “The group encountered many difficulties during the production process, especially in finding accurate historical documents about Mac Cuu's journey as well as verifying official sources of information. At the same time, expressing the content in the most attractive and intuitive way was also a big challenge for the group. However, thanks to their passion and determination, the film was completed,” Mai Linh Nhu shared.
Previously, in March, other projects were also announced and received positive reviews and the love of many people. For example, the art program “Nhat Huyen Van Sac Hoa Am” by students Nguyen Nhu Quynh, Le Tran Hoang Vi, Truong Quynh Anh, Nguyen Huynh Yen Vy and Nguyen Huu Kiet was inspired by the monochord.
The program exploits the intersection between “Nhat Huyen” (the only string, a symbol of quintessence) and “Van Sac” (the diversity of artistic nuances), aiming to encourage the young generation to apply national cultural elements in defining their personal identity. The program has 3 chapters, including solo performances of the monochord, ensemble performances of the monochord with traditional musical instruments, modern musical instruments, dances... creating an artistic space, expressing love for the homeland. At the same time, video reports are shown affirming that in the flow of national history, traditional music is present through the stages; including the role of the monochord from folk to royal court, then reaching out to the world... All performances are supported by lecturers and students of the Department of Ethnic Music. Ms. Huynh Ngoc Dong Giao, lecturer of Multimedia Communications at FPT University Can Tho, commented: “The program left many emotions for viewers. This is an opportunity for young people to learn, try their best and contribute practically to affirm their personal values through their own national identity.”
Also choosing to perform on stage, the music event “Bolero - Telling history through love songs” by the student group Ho Nguyen Bao Vy, Nguyen Ngoc Tran, Le Vo Nhat Khoa, Huynh Nguyen Thanh Truc, did not take place in a hall but performed at a cafe with a spacious, cozy space. The program was built over 3 acts, symbolizing 3 stages of Bolero: “Thang”, “Dang” and “Binh”. Each stage is recreated through emotional performances by young singers, combined with an engaging storytelling style, helping the audience have a more comprehensive view of the journey of Bolero.
From another perspective, the group of students Phan Thi Nha Phuong, Nguyen Ngoc Bao Tran, Nguyen Doan Trang, Le Duy Nguyen chose the exhibition of handicraft products made from water hyacinth called “Sac Luc Binh” as their graduation project. Participants will be led through each area of the exhibition, starting with the image of the original water hyacinth bush. Next is the process of processing water hyacinth before the water hyacinth fibers are brought out to be woven (dried, made into fibers and water hyacinth processing tools), to the stage when the water hyacinth fibers are woven into specific shapes. Finally, there is the area displaying products made from water hyacinth, demonstrating the innovation and international integration of the water hyacinth weaving profession. After the exhibition, participants can check-in at the display areas in the main hall or participate in painting on water hyacinth paper and water hyacinth coasters... Student Phan Thi Nha Phuong said: “The group wants to spread the value of water hyacinth weaving through art by painting or decorating the products, helping the products reach more customers and tourists. This solution not only helps preserve traditional cultural values but also brings novelty, increases aesthetics and attracts customers to businesses”.
