When sportsmanship goes hand in hand with social responsibility: Lessons from Mr. Hien

An ideal sports sponsor not only knows how to encourage the spirit of competition but also cares about social responsibility. The case of Do Quang Hien, who always burns himself out for achievements but is also ready to extend a hand to help athletes in times of danger, is a vivid illustration of the harmonious combination of these two factors.

For many bosses, “ sportsmanship ” is synonymous with the desire to win and the constant effort to conquer the top. The same is true for Mr. Hien: He is famous for being passionate about sports and always sets high goals for the teams he sponsors.

From football to table tennis, Mr. Hien's mark is associated with strong investment campaigns to improve achievements. For example, the CAND T&T table tennis team, under his support, quickly rose to win many national championships, creating fierce competition in top tournaments.

After each victory of the athletes, Mr. Hien also does not hesitate to pay large rewards to promptly encourage and honor those efforts. Clearly, Mr. Hien always burns with a strong sportsmanship spirit: Aiming for the highest achievements, competing with all his might and constantly striving for the flag and colors.

However, what makes Mr. Hien different is that he does not consider achievement as the only goal. Along with his determination to conquer the top, he also carries a deep social responsibility towards athletes and the community.

Mr. Hien’s “fair-play” spirit is not only on the field but also shown in the way he treats people. Most notably, he never abandons his athletes when they are in trouble.

In fact, in the sports world, many sponsors are willing to forget or terminate contracts with athletes if they lose form or get injured. This creates harsh pressure on performance, sometimes forcing athletes to sacrifice their health to please investors.

In this aspect, Mr. Hien has chosen a completely different direction: He accompanies athletes in both glory and hardship. Instead of considering athletes as “medal machines”, Mr. Hien sees them first and foremost as human beings with difficulties and needs that need to be understood and shared.

Therefore, when tennis player Le Dinh Duc, one of the talents he nurtured, fell seriously ill, Mr. Hien spared no time, effort and money to help Duc get treatment and recover his health. He once affirmed: Even though Duc could not return to competition, he was still satisfied because he had helped him have a normal life. That is the sense of responsibility that comes from the "heart" of a true sportsman.

That humane decision has helped Le Dinh Duc's arduous 3-year journey on the hospital bed come to a happy ending. During that time, the entire Hanoi T&T table tennis team at that time became a strong support for Duc mentally and physically. Coach Vu Manh Cuong and Duc's teammates personally took turns taking Duc from the 1st floor to the 5th floor of Bach Mai Hospital every day to facilitate his daily activities and treatment.

Each dose of special medicine for Duc at that time cost more than 20 million VND, a huge amount compared to the income of a young athlete, but thanks to the wholehearted support from Mr. Hien, the financial issue has never been a barrier to the treatment process.

The combination of high sportsmanship and social responsibility in Mr. Hien has brought unexpected values. On the one hand, the sports teams led by him have continuously achieved impressive results thanks to systematic investment and timely encouragement. On the other hand, his acts of kindness have inspired positive, creating strong bonds between team members and instilling trust in fans. Le Dinh Duc also recently won 2 consecutive gold medals in the men's team and men's singles events at the national table tennis championship, in which the highlight was the 3-0 victory over top player Nguyen Anh Tu in the men's team final.

The story of Le Dinh Duc's strong comeback after a serious illness with the dedicated support of Mr. Hien is the clearest proof: When athletes receive both material and spiritual attention, they can overcome their limits and shine brighter than ever.

From the lesson of Mr. Hien, we can see that a successful sports sponsor not only needs courage and determination to win, but also needs a heart towards humanity. Sportsmanship and social responsibility are not two parallel lines, on the contrary, they can complement each other to create sustainable miracles. When sports people know how to balance the desire to win and compassion, sports will truly become a noble field, not just a cold race for medals.

It is not difficult to understand why Mr. Hien receives special respect from the sports world and fans. What he has achieved is not only titles, but also the love and trust that he instills in others. The spirit of sports and social responsibility combined in Mr. Hien is a model for professional sports to develop comprehensively and humanely.
