Speaking at the event, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports Pham Xuan Tai emphasized the important role of the family in nurturing and cultivating the personality, lifestyle and fine traditional ethics of the Vietnamese people. Building a prosperous, progressive, happy and civilized family is an important goal of the City's Family Development Strategy to 2030.
Notably, statistics show positive results in the prevention and control of domestic violence in Hanoi. Over the past 10 years, the number of domestic violence cases in the city has decreased significantly. From 331 cases detected in 2014, this number decreased to 263 cases in 2017 and only 24 cases in 2024. Most victims receive timely mental and psychological counseling and medical care.
Mr. Pham Xuan Tai also pointed out that the process of industrialization, modernization, and international integration has brought many achievements in economic , cultural, and social development, but also created challenges for families. Domestic violence has become a burning issue in modern society, causing serious consequences, affecting the honor, dignity, and even the lives of family members, especially vulnerable groups such as the elderly, women, and children.
In her response, Vice Chairwoman of Nam Tu Liem District People's Committee Do Thi Thuy Ha said that the district has implemented many synchronous solutions to improve the effectiveness of domestic violence prevention and control. In particular, in addition to the active activities of 141 Front Committees of residential groups in mobilizing people to maintain solidarity, love and sharing in the community, Nam Tu Liem District also has 22 clubs for building sustainable families and 22 groups for preventing and combating domestic violence. Maintaining and expanding these models in residential groups has contributed positively to building a healthy living environment.
To achieve the goal of “Improving the effectiveness of domestic violence prevention and control; creating changes in awareness and actions; gradually reducing domestic violence; promptly supporting victims of domestic violence”, the leaders of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports have set out 5 key tasks.
That is: Leaders at all levels, sectors, and socio-political organizations continue to raise awareness of domestic violence prevention and control and organize activities well in localities, agencies, and units according to the provisions of the Law on Domestic Violence Prevention and Control.
Departments, branches and localities proactively develop specific tasks, projects and plans to implement targets on preventing and combating domestic violence; coordinate to build a network of population collaborators to carry out family and children work in the community.
In addition, localities need to promote communication on domestic violence prevention and control in accordance with each target group and regional culture; pay special attention to ethnic minority areas; strengthen inspection and examination of law enforcement on domestic violence prevention and control; promptly resolve complaints and denunciations of violations; call for strong participation of all people and the community...
