In Da Nang, rapid urbanization in recent years has put many cultural heritage sites at risk of disappearing. Therefore, applying digital technology to preserve and restore folk cultural materials is an effective way to maintain and disseminate the nation's precious cultural heritage.

Digital transformation applications

Currently, the digitization of folklore materials is carried out through various forms such as scanning images, recording audio, shooting videos , or photographing ancient documents, in order to store them on digital platforms.

Thanks to this, unique values such as sounds (folk songs, ritual singing, Bài Chòi chanting, call-and-response chanting, etc.), images (Heavenly Dog dance, Fishing Festival, Long Chu, Shepherd of Phong Le village, folk paintings and sculptures, etc.) or texts (royal decrees, riddles, folk songs, folk tales, etc.) are preserved in a long-term and sustainable way in the digital space.

According to Master Do Thanh Tan, Vice President of the Da Nang City Folk Arts Association, building an online database on folk culture not only helps to effectively store and manage digital materials, but also expands the ability to search, access, and share information with the community.

To bring folklore to a wider audience, the use of social media and online platforms to disseminate and promote these materials is essential.

Online forums on social media can help connect and interact with communities interested in traditional culture. This can also provide communities with new learning opportunities and enhance awareness of cultural heritage.

Musician Trinh Tuan Khanh, who has spent decades immersed in the folk culture of Quang Nam province, has restored and recorded valuable footage of the Shepherd Festival and traditional folk games.

He shared: "The use of digital technology not only helps preserve and restore folk art and cultural materials but also opens up many opportunities to explore and develop these contents in a more creative and effective way."

For example, developing digital applications for traditional folk games or riddles can be both entertaining and help introduce and educate the younger generation about folk culture in a more enjoyable, easy, and accessible way.”

Artists and creators can reimagine stories and folk legends to suit the feelings and understanding of today's generation.

Innovating the content and presentation style makes the performance more appealing to modern audiences. This could include applying audio, visual, or online performance techniques to recreate folk games, folk performances, or other forms of oral tradition.

Podcasts, television programs, or online radio channels will contribute to spreading and disseminating cultural content effectively and vividly.

Bringing digital transformation closer to researchers.

Currently, most folklore researchers in Da Nang are elderly, making it difficult for them to access digital technology.

Therefore, it is necessary to organize information exchange sessions and online workshops to help traditional artists learn and apply new techniques, as well as encourage creativity in performance.

From this, we can gain a deeper understanding of how digital technology drives change and development in folk culture, as well as its impact on communities.

Combining tradition with modern innovation is a crucial step in maintaining the vitality and appeal of traditional art in contemporary society.

Meanwhile, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Khanh, a lecturer at Duy Tan University, believes that more mechanisms and policies are needed to encourage young people to participate more in the digitization of folk culture.

Young people are very creative, enthusiastic, passionate about their work, and dedicated to contributing. Their youthful spirit and energy will help sustain the preservation of folk culture.

It can be said that digital transformation is an inevitable and necessary trend that every country must implement. In this context, culture is a fundamental and core issue, and it cannot lag behind other sectors.

Through digital transformation and the application of new scientific and technological achievements in preserving, promoting, and disseminating the values of folk culture, Da Nang opens doors for the world to learn more about its cultural life and people.
