The model of raising native ducks (also known as green-necked ducks) in Chieng La commune has been implemented since March 2024, with 5 households participating in the model, with a scale of 700 ducks. During the raising process, households are instructed on how to care for and prevent diseases, so the flock of ducks develops healthily. When fully grown, the ducks weigh about 1.6-1.8 kg; the bones are small, the meat is firm, sweet and has a distinct aroma. According to households, raising green-necked ducks does not require much effort and cost, the raising time is short, and it brings high economic efficiency.
Mr. Quàng Văn Mạnh, Cát Lô village, Chieng La commune, Thuận Châu, Sơn La : “Previously, my family mainly raised chickens to serve the family. With the encouragement of the commune, my family raised local ducks and sold the first batch, bringing economic efficiency. Now my family is raising 200 more ducks to expand the local duck model of Chieng La commune.”
The mallard duck in Chieng La commune is a native duck breed, highly resistant to disease, adaptable to natural environmental conditions. Previously, households in the commune mainly raised small-scale ducks for their families. However, after being promoted by the commune, nearly 20 households have registered to participate in commercial farming, concentrated in the villages: Song, Cat Lot, Chieng La... The commune has focused on transferring science and technology to farming households; closely monitoring the farming process; promoting and introducing products on social networks such as Zalo, Facebook. Along with that, it is coordinating with specialized units to build traceability stamps. Through the scan code, consumers will be able to trace the origin, source as well as the farming process of the native ducks of households in Chieng La.
Mr. Ca Van Tuong, Chieng La commune, Thuan Chau, Son La: "After the Party Committee and the People's Committee of the commune supported the origin traceability stamp, many people know about Chieng La duck, know the breeding formula, thirdly, many people know that they will sell it at a higher price, increasing their family income".
To support people in finding stable outlets for their products, Chieng La commune has established a group called “Supporting connection and consumption of Chieng La agricultural products” with members led by the Women’s Union, Farmers’ Union and Youth Union. The group also regularly organizes training on VietGAP-oriented livestock farming techniques, gradually turning Chieng La native ducks into OCOP products. At the same time, it guides households to invest in incubators to proactively source breeds, increase the size of the flock, and contribute to preserving and maintaining native breeds.
Comrade Quàng Thị Phượng, Secretary of the Party Committee of Chiềng La Commune, Thuận Châu, Sơn La: “ Currently, the indigenous duck model has entered its fourth generation. After the ducks matured and we sold them, we highly appreciated the quality and design of the products. In the coming time, we will assign sectors and organizations to propagate and expand the model, focusing on product promotion as well as registering traceability stamps to confirm that the products have clear origins.”
It can be seen that the model of raising local ducks in Chieng La has initially brought about economic efficiency. This will be the premise for expanding local branded products and promoting them to a wide range of consumers in the near future./.
