Journey into the isolated valley
Located deep in the buffer zone of Pu Luong Nature Reserve, Kho Muong village in Pu Luong commune, Thanh Hoa province, is home to 65 Thai ethnic households with more than 300 people. To reach this village, visitors must overcome a steep road about 1km long, winding around high mountain slopes, especially bumpy and difficult to travel.
Because of the rugged terrain, a special team of motorbike taxi drivers made up of local people was born, ready to take tourists to explore the beauty of the village. This is not only a means of transportation but also part of the unique experience when coming to Kho Muong.
The pristine beauty of Kho Muong
From above, Kho Muong appears like a rustic picture with stilt houses nestled on the mountainside, surrounded by gently sloping terraced fields and primeval forests. The wild, peaceful beauty of this place has become an attractive destination for those who love to explore and immerse themselves in nature.
Motorbike taxi team 'repays' nature
Initially, passenger transport activities were spontaneous. By June 2022, the model of "Self-managed tourist motorbike taxi for security and order" was established with the voluntary participation of 90 people, under the management of local authorities. This model not only helps transport activities become more professional but also contributes to ensuring security and order.
The cost for a trip in and out of the village is 100,000 VND. What is special is that after each trip, the drivers will contribute 10,000 VND to the village's common fund. This money is used to repair roads, buy more trash cans, plant trees and build public works. Mr. Ngan Van Cuong, a member of the team, shared: "Nature gives us beauty for tourists to come to. Having more income is also thanks to the mountains and forests, so we want to do something to 'return the favor'."
Real-life experiences for visitors
In addition to transportation, members of the motorbike taxi team also act as amateur tour guides, introducing visitors to the history and culture of the village with a friendly and hospitable attitude. Mr. Thanh Tung, a tourist, commented: "Coming to Kho Muong, not only can you admire the beautiful scenery but also the friendly people. I was quite surprised by the motorbike taxi team carrying tourists, they are very professional and friendly."
Currently, the local government also wants the road to the village to be invested and upgraded to facilitate the development of community tourism. However, due to its location in the buffer zone of the conservation area, the project implementation still faces some problems that need to be resolved.
