The moment Russian planes attacked Ukraine's air defense system

The video posted online on May 6 shows that the above information is correct. The destroyed air defense systems include the 9K33 Osa, 9K35 Strela-10 made in the Soviet Union and the Avenger AN/TWQ-1 system made in the US.

Ukraine inherited more than 120 9K33 Osa systems and more than 70 Strela-10 systems after the collapse of the Soviet Union. In addition, Eastern European countries and some other sources are believed to have provided many of these systems to Kiev forces since the start of Russia's special military operation in Ukraine. Kiev has also received at least 12 Avengers AN/TWQ-1 systems from the United States.

Three short-range air defense systems were attacked by an upgraded version of the Lancet, the Izdeliye-51. This version, which has extended wings, an endurance of 40 minutes and is equipped with a 3 kg warhead.

The Lancet suicide drone, developed by Russia's ZALA Aero Corporation, is equipped with an inertial navigation system supported by GLONASS, a laser system and an electro-optical system. This allows the Lancet to detect, track and lock on to both stationary and moving targets.

The Lancet’s small radar cross-section and minimal infrared signature make it difficult to intercept. Even short-range air defense systems designed to counter small, low-altitude aerial targets would have difficulty detecting the Lancet.

The Russian military has used Lancet suicide drones to destroy or damage at least 28 long-, medium- and short-range air defense systems of Kiev forces since the start of its special operation in Ukraine last year.

Previously, on May 4, the SF website reported that from May 1 to May 4, many Russian sources shared videos recording 6 recent attacks by Lancet drones targeting military equipment of Kiev forces in the special military operations area.

Four strikes hit three Soviet-made 2S1 Gvozdika 122 mm self-propelled guns and a Soviet-made T-72 tank. Two other videos show the targets being the 5P85S anti-aircraft mount for the S-300PS long-range missile system and the 36D6 long-range air defense radar, both Soviet-made. The images show that all targets were destroyed.
