Nguyen Cong Tru Primary School, Ward 16, District 8, this new school year 2024-2025 welcomes 342 first graders out of a total of 1,571 students in the whole school.

This morning, after gathering and welcoming the first graders in the school yard, the teachers guided the students to their classrooms. The homeroom teachers shared with the students about the rules and regulations of the class, then took them around the school, visiting the classrooms, functional rooms, restrooms, and playgrounds in the school yard so that the first graders could better understand the school they would be attending.

Besides many students eagerly and happily getting to know new friends, many first graders were surprised and burst into tears when they saw that their parents were no longer sitting next to them.

Ms. Phung Le Dieu Hanh, Principal of Nguyen Cong Tru Primary School, said that in the first week (from August 19 to August 23), first graders will come to school in the mornings from 7:30 to 10:30 to gradually get used to the classroom environment, before officially entering the new school year from September 5.

After sitting with their children in the school yard, parents will move to another classroom to listen to the teachers announce some school rules and prepare school supplies for their children. Many children burst into tears when they see their parents not sitting next to them...

"I don't want to go to class, mom," a first grader cried, while his mother stood next to him, constantly comforting and encouraging him.

Kha Mi, a first grader at Nguyen Cong Tru Primary School in District 8, is looking forward to the first day of school today. Mr. Tan, Kha Mi's father, said: 'Since last night, when her mother finished ironing her uniform, she insisted on wearing new clothes and new shoes to sleep, but her parents did not agree.'

Many parents said that they and their children were nervous and anxiously waiting for the first day of school for several days.

"My son and I woke up at 6am, had breakfast and went to school. Before the first day of school, we went to the bookstore to buy books and notebooks. I talked to my son and gave him a lot of advice. I was worried that he would have to adapt to many changes compared to preschool when he went to the new school level. But this morning when he arrived at school, the teacher welcomed him at the gate with very cute words of comfort and consolation.
