A corner of Tinh Bien town today
Step by step transformation
According to the History of the Party Committee of Tinh Bien Town, Tinh Bien District was established under Resolution 19/NQ-TW, dated December 20, 1975 of the Politburo. This was the first mark, affirming the name of this land in a peaceful and unified Vietnam. From here, generations of Tinh Bien people started to build their homeland. In each period, Tinh Bien land has made progress in socio-economic development, gradually stabilizing people's lives in the face of difficulties and challenges.
During the period of 1975 - 1990, the cadres and people of Tinh Bien entered a period of overcoming the consequences of war. The Muong Tien canal, the 1/5 canal of Tan Lap commune, the 3/2 canal of An Nong commune increased the rice crop from 45 hectares in 1985 to over 16,000 hectares as it is today. During this period, Tinh Bien gradually built infrastructure in many areas, including the Lam Vien Nui Cam tourist area, opening the way for local tourism development.
In the early 90s, Tinh Bien District General Hospital, O-tuk-sa Lake or the national power grid coverage to commune and town centers... changed the lives of local residents. All of these demonstrated the solidarity between the Party Committee, government and Tinh Bien People in sharing and contributing land and facilities to construct these meaningful projects.
Following that momentum, a series of key projects, such as: Dredging Vinh Te Canal, Pumping Station 3/2 for highland irrigation, Tinh Bien border market in the years 1996 - 2000 affirmed the basic development of the border district. During this period, the Party Committee of the town proposed policies and decisions on investment in education, with support for teachers to participate in work in Tinh Bien, or pioneering the construction of student dormitories at An Giang University, affirming the determination to invest in human resources, creating the basis for the development of this land in the future.
Continuing the development momentum, in the period of 2001 - 2005, the infrastructure system continued to be invested in and built, especially the rural traffic routes in Tinh Bien were significantly upgraded. The highlight of this term was that Tinh Bien assessed and determined that the economic structure would shift towards taking trade and services as a breakthrough, while agricultural production remained the foundation. From there, it created a basic premise for the development orientation, firmly entering the new period.
Worthy of urban
With the premises achieved in the previous period, Tinh Bien has increasingly gathered enough strength and power to transform itself into a border urban area. The special mark of this border land in the period of 2006 - 2015 is to promote socio-economic development, focusing on border trade and tourism. In particular, on May 29, 2013, the Asia Record Organization recognized the Maitreya Buddha statue on Cam Mountain as "the Maitreya Buddha statue on the largest mountain top in Asia", marking the period when Tinh Bien promoted the exploitation of the potential and strengths of the "smokeless industry".
In the period of 2016 - 2020, Tinh Bien continues to exploit advantages and potentials in all fields, attracting many key investment projects, positively affecting the development of the locality, such as: Cam Mountain cable car project with an investment capital of 300 billion VND; Thanh Long water park 250 billion VND; Sao Mai solar power project (An Hao commune) 3,000 billion VND. These are the projects with the largest capital in the province.
In particular, in July 2018, Tinh Bien was recognized by the Ministry of Construction as meeting the criteria for a type 4 urban area, creating the premise for the establishment of Tinh Bien Town. In addition, the locality also attracted 25 enterprises to invest in 33 projects, with a capital of 10,802 billion VND. Public investment capital alone reached nearly 118 billion VND, to invest in key projects, such as: 3/2 highland irrigation system phase 2, Dinh Nghia pumping station, Huong Lo 11 Vinh Trung - An Cu, Bau Muop road, Dinh road, Lam Vo - Thoi Son road, parks, sidewalks, drainage culverts... have gradually formed the appearance of Tinh Bien mountain town.
After continuous efforts in the construction process, generations of leaders, cadres and people of Tinh Bien were delighted when the Standing Committee of the 15th National Assembly issued Resolution 721/NQ-UBTVQH15 to establish Tinh Bien Town. From here, the Party Committee, government and people of the town have promoted internal strength and taken advantage of external strength to create a new momentum with a modern urban appearance and a prosperous countryside. The development of the inter-regional transport infrastructure system (Provincial Road 948, Provincial Road 945) has created conditions for Tinh Bien to become a dynamic urban area of An Giang province.
Looking back on the 50-year journey, those who were born and raised in this land cannot hide their pride in the changes of their homeland. Walking on the new and spacious road, welcoming the April wind tinged with history, people will be extremely excited and confident in the road ahead, where Tinh Bien will join the whole country in entering the "Era of the rise of the Vietnamese people"!
In addition to the socio-economic progress, Tinh Bien Town was also honored to be awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the State Council in 1978 and 1990. The town also has 5 localities that were awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces. |
