Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van Phuong; Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Hai Minh; and members of the Provincial Party Committee attended the rehearsal.
According to the predetermined situation, there were 2 subjects using AK guns, K59 pistols and petrol bombs to commit robbery at the Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade, Thua Thien Hue branch.
After controlling the security guards and threatening people who were making transactions to receive money from the bank, the subjects took the money and tried to escape. However, when they discovered that the police were surrounding and pursuing them, the subjects returned to the transaction area, controlling, threatening and kidnapping 15 hostages.
At the same time, they fiercely fought back against the authorities; threw petrol bombs at the police in front of the bank lobby and some offices on the 1st and 2nd floors, causing the fire to spread to the 3rd and 4th floors of the building.
After about 3 hours of negotiation, under the direct command of the Provincial Police Director, the functional forces of the Provincial Police organized a series of simultaneous attacks; successfully controlled and arrested 2 subjects, and safely rescued the hostages.
The Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of the Provincial Police quickly deployed forces to control and successfully extinguish the fire, creating conditions for investigators and criminal technicians of the Provincial Police and Hue City Police to block off and protect the scene; organize an examination and collect evidence.
The drill is a favorable condition for the provincial police force, officers and bank employees to be more proactive in preventing and combating all types of bank robberies.
