Teachers at Phuc Tam An Special Education Center - Nhu Thanh Branch participated in World Autism Awareness Day (April 2nd).
The doors seemed to be closing.
Ms. NTT, from Thieu Giao commune (Thieu Hoa district), used to be an accountant with a stable income, but had to quit her job when her son, LHN, was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder at just over two years old. He doesn't speak, doesn't react to sounds, and often sits alone spinning objects around. "At that time, I just hoped that one day he would learn to call me 'Mom.' But I waited and waited... and all I saw was his vacant gaze and prolonged screams," Ms. T. confided.
Since that day, the mother and daughter have traveled to intervention centers every week. The cost of over 6 million VND per month is beyond the means of a farming family, but she doesn't dare give up.
The story of Ms. LTM in Quang Hung ward ( Thanh Hoa City) is also a heartbreaking tale. She recalls the early days when she discovered her child's unusual behavior: "At 3 years old, LTNM didn't call out 'Mom,' didn't make eye contact, and only repeated a few meaningless sounds." After numerous examinations, the final conclusion was that her child suffered from a speech disorder. For her, it was like a heavy "sentence." At times, she was so desperate that she even considered ending everything with her child. But then, maternal love pulled her out of that abyss, forcing her to stand up and continue accompanying her child on the most difficult journey of her life.
Like Ms. T. and Ms. M., Ms. LTH in Ben Sung town (Nhu Thanh district) went through a crisis when her 3-year-old son still couldn't speak, was afraid of sounds, and completely avoided eye contact with strangers. "My son wasn't like other children, and I didn't know what to do except cry," she said, her voice choked with emotion.
That's a common feeling among many parents of autistic children: confusion, isolation, and near exhaustion.
In truth, behind every special child is the shadow of an extraordinary mother. They don't need praise, they don't crave sympathy, they only need a glimmer of hope to cling to the dream of hearing their child's voice. That dream isn't as far-fetched as becoming a doctor, engineer, or scientist . It's simply a sound. But for them, it's a miracle.
"The bridge" brings joy.
In a child's early years, especially for those with language, behavioral, emotional, or communication difficulties, the most valuable thing is not just a well-directed intervention program, but also a place that understands the child with heart and supports them with empathy.
The Blue Sky Special Education Center has become a trusted haven for many families. Here, each child is treated as a unique "individual," with their own pace of development and individual needs. The center's therapy programs are not rigid but flexibly adapted to each child, from sensory development and pre-school skills to communication, behavior regulation, and emotional support. The therapy space is designed to be warm and family-like, where children are listened to, accepted, and gradually open up to connect with the world. The center has expanded its operations to several locations to better meet the needs of parents and students. The main facility is located in Quang Thanh Ward (Thanh Hoa City). In addition, two other facilities in Truong Son Ward (Sam Son City) and Kim Tan Town (Thach Thanh District) are also operating effectively, serving hundreds of children in need of early intervention in their respective areas.
Along with the Blue Sky Center, there are now many other specialized centers playing an important role in "pulling children out of their own world." Phuc Tam An Special Education Center is one of the reputable addresses in the field of early intervention for children with developmental disorders, especially autism. Currently, the center has 6 facilities including its main headquarters in Thanh Hoa City and branches in Hoang Hoa, Nga Son, Nong Cong, Nhu Thanh, and Cam Thuy, with hundreds of students. The center accepts children from 18 months to about 9 years old, a period considered the "golden" for intervention and rehabilitation.
Every small gesture is a stepping stone on the recovery journey - helping autistic children connect with the world (Illustrative image).
With a team of experts from Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, and other locations, Phuc Tam An not only offers diverse intervention programs such as behavioral therapy, speech therapy, and personalized education, but also accompanies parents in advising and guiding them on skills to support their children at home. In particular, the center regularly organizes free community programs to assess, diagnose, and guide early intervention for children from 18 months old, and trains preschool teachers on skills to support children with special needs. With a mission to spread understanding and love, Phuc Tam An is becoming a trusted address for many families with children facing developmental difficulties.
In addition, throughout the province there are specialized centers for children with developmental delays such as: Naruto Center (Trieu Son), Tue An Center (Quang Phu, Quang Tam), Ban Mai Xanh Center (Nong Cong town)... These centers are striving every day to maintain the best possible quality of treatment despite many limitations.
On the arduous journey of mothers with autistic children, what they need is not just a therapy center, but understanding from the community, schools, healthcare, and the media. They don't need pity, but practical support policies, an inclusive learning environment, and genuine companionship from hearts that know how to listen...
And when the doors gradually open, when the child looks at its mother and softly whispers, "Mommy!", it's not just a moment of overwhelming love - but the culmination of countless months of unwavering devotion.
