On the morning of April 18, Deputy Director of the Department of Construction Nguyen Huu Hong chaired a meeting with brick manufacturing enterprises and relevant localities, departments and branches to discuss measures to stabilize brick prices.

At the meeting, localities in the province reported that the current high price of burnt bricks has affected construction activities in the area, especially slowing down the progress of the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses under the direction of the Central and the province. Currently, the price of burnt bricks in mountainous districts is at 2,600 to 2,700 VND/brick. Brick suppliers have increased prices, making localities not know how to deal with the elimination of temporary houses for people. The increase in brick prices, increasing construction costs, has put many unfinished houses at risk of being temporarily suspended due to lack of funds.

At the meeting, brick manufacturers also said that the demand for burnt bricks has increased dramatically since March, causing supply to be unable to meet demand. Currently, the factory has received large orders, the price at the factory is 1,350 VND/brick. The price of burnt bricks in the past 2 months at the factory has not increased, the continuous increase in brick prices in the market is due to the increase by agents.

Representative of Son Tay district raised difficulties in implementing the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses when the price of burnt bricks increases.

All brick manufacturing enterprises committed to put the factory into full operation in the coming days; prioritize direct sales at the lowest price for localities that need to register to buy bricks to serve the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses. At the same time, they hope that the province will issue a program to mobilize support for bricks to join hands in building houses for people in difficult circumstances in the area.

Concluding the meeting, Deputy Director of the Department of Construction Nguyen Huu Hong affirmed that the Department will support brick manufacturing enterprises to increase their capacity. Check the quality of bricks from other provinces flooding the provincial market, and handle the situation of poor quality bricks. At the same time, it is recommended that the province has policies to support premises, borrow capital to invest in technology, increase competitiveness in production, and meet the demand for construction bricks at all times.

“Localities in the province that need to buy bricks directly from factories need to count the quantity and assign contact points to factories to buy at preferential prices to serve the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses. At the same time, promote people's understanding of the use of unburnt bricks in construction, to reduce pressure on the production of burnt bricks. The Department of Construction will intervene and regulate the supply from factories to localities in a reasonable manner, not allowing agents to arbitrarily increase prices, causing difficulties for construction activities in the area,” Deputy Director of the Department of Construction Nguyen Huu Hong emphasized.
