The zero-cost boarding house in Thu Duc City ( Ho Chi Minh City) is not only a home, but also a spiritual support, where people fighting the terrible disease of cancer can find safety and support from the community.
The zero-dong boarding house is located at 23/4 Binh Trung Street, Binh Trung Dong Ward, Thu Duc City (Ho Chi Minh City), built by the family of Ms. Thuy Duong (born in 1990). This special boarding house is a temporary place for disadvantaged and cancer patients undergoing treatment.
It is known that this free boarding house was built based on the wishes of Ms. Duong's mother. After the recent COVID-19 pandemic, this boarding house was officially put into operation.
This boarding house has a total of 14 rooms, fully equipped with beds, mats, and fans. Sharing with Lao Dong, Ms. Duong said that a room with a loft can accommodate 5-6 people, and a large room can accommodate about 10 people.
"Currently, I am having this dormitory renovated to make it more comfortable and neat. I want to make sure everything is as neat as possible, to bring comfort and peace of mind to patients during treatment," said Ms. Duong.
Patients who come here are mostly from the provinces in the West, there are also some from the Central region whose family circumstances are very difficult, and the cost of treatment is high, so when the treatment is finished, Ms. Thuy Duong will connect with 0-dong buses to support the patient's return home.
“When building this zero-cost dormitory, I also received support and help from many people, buying supplies, painting walls, everyone wanted to join hands to create a comfortable resting place for patients,” said Ms. Duong.
In addition, the kitchen for cooking for patients has also been renovated by Ms. Duong to be very neat and clean. She provides all the basic foods such as rice, vegetables, instant noodles and instant porridge to meet the needs of patients.
Usually, the patient’s relatives will prepare the meals themselves. However, there are cases when no one is able to cook, so she will take on the role of cooking for everyone. She is always willing to ensure that everyone is provided with a full and quality meal.
“I came here from my hometown to get medical treatment but the cost of treatment is high. Luckily, I found out about this zero-dong motel and received help, which also eased my financial worries. It is comfortable and cool here. The owner also provides all kinds of food for everyone to cook, and supports transportation back to my hometown. I feel very lucky and grateful!” - Ms. Thai Thi Thuong (from Bac Lieu ) shared.
Although the boarding house has just been put into use, Ms. Duong said that the monthly cost to operate the boarding house is not less than 100 million VND. Although the cost is quite high, she also has the support of other benefactors.
When asked about her wishes, Ms. Duong hopes that more zero-cost boarding houses will be built to help the poor and unfortunate people out there.
