Arsenal have 12 absolute points. |
According to the calculation model from Opta , teams participating in the UEFA Champions League qualifying round this season need to achieve specific points thresholds to secure a position in the leading group. To enter the top 8, teams need to have at least 16 points.
For the top 24 (9-24 places will qualify for the playoffs), teams need a minimum of 9 points. This is the number of points needed to qualify for the qualifying round. If they reach 10 points, they are almost guaranteed safety.
Currently, after 4 matches, Arsenal has 12 absolute points. The "Gunners" are definitely in the top 24 and only need 4 more points in the remaining 4 matches to secure a place in the top 8.
Other big English teams like Man City (10 points) or Newcastle, Liverpool (both with 9 points) are also almost certain to be in the top 24. They need to win 6-7 more points in the last 4 matches to be sure of being in the top 8.
The two teams with the worst records in the foggy country, Tottenham (8 points) and Chelsea (7 points), still have many chances. They only need to win at least 1 of the remaining 4 matches to secure a place in the top 24.
There are four rounds left in the Champions League qualifying round this season, so things could still change – but it looks like all six English clubs are likely to progress.
