Kien Giang proposes to invest about 7,000 billion VND to build coastal roads in Phu Quoc

On March 27, the People's Committee of Kien Giang province sent a document to the Government Office and the Ministry of Planning and Investment to clarify the proposal for infrastructure investment in Phu Quoc City.

In Official Dispatch No. 424 dated March 8, 2024 of the People's Committee of Kien Giang province on sending the draft Summary Report of Decision No. 178 of the Prime Minister . Accordingly, the People's Committee of Kien Giang province proposed to prioritize capital sources to invest in infrastructure development for water supply, waste treatment, traffic infrastructure... with a total demand of about 42,000 billion VND.

Through reviewing the order of priority and urgency, the People's Committee of Kien Giang province proposed to allocate State budget capital to invest in two projects that are very urgent for the development of Phu Quoc city.

The Phu Quoc coastal road project has a total investment of about 7,000 billion VND, with an average road surface of 9m-30m and a total length of 26.6km. According to the Provincial People's Committee, this route runs along the coast of Phu Quoc, meeting both traffic and sightseeing needs, national defense and security, and climate change response. The route is in line with the planning of Phu Quoc island.

The project of belt road along special-use forests and protective forests on Phu Quoc Island has a total length of about 184km, with a total investment of about 920 billion VND. This route is both a traffic route and a boundary separating the forest from the outside to prevent forest fires, protect the forest and prevent encroachment on Phu Quoc forests.

With the above contents, Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee recommends that the Government Office and the Ministry of Planning and Investment consider and approve priority investment in these two projects.

Previously, on February 29, in Phu Quoc City, the People's Committee of Kien Giang Province coordinated with the Ministry of Construction to organize a conference to announce the Master Plan of Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang Province to 2040.

According to the project, Phu Quoc will be built as a special economic-administrative zone, a national and international center for eco-tourism, resorts, and high-class entertainment, a regional-scale financial center; an important hub for regional transportation and international aviation. The vision of the pearl island city, the national tourist area is a globally famous tourist destination, focusing on the mid- to high-end tourism market segment.
