Kieu Linh raises 400 abandoned dogs

Actress Kieu Linh established the shelter "A little love" to raise nearly 400 abandoned and sick dogs in Ba Ria - Vung Tau.

More than 5 years ago, Kieu Linh rescued three dogs on her way to Long An to film the comedy Ghost. At that time, discovering that they were locked in cages and being sold to pubs, the actress quickly chased after them and paid for the animals, then sent them to a local rescue station to be raised.

During the pandemic, Kieu Linh said she rescued 20 more dogs abandoned by their owners along the roads in Ba Ria - Vung Tau . Because there were so many that she could not take care of them at her home in Ho Chi Minh City, the actress bought a piece of land about 1,000 square meters away from residential areas in Dat Do town to raise the animals. Currently, the actress's dog farm has about 300 dogs and 100 dogs are kept at another facility managed by an acquaintance, mostly stray dogs. "I found dogs that were thrown in the trash because they were old, weak, or sick, and I raised them until they were healthy," the actress said.

Once, she received a video of two dogs at a market in Vung Tau at 2am. While at home in Ho Chi Minh City, the actress called a driver to take them away quickly, saving them before they were taken to the slaughterhouse. At first, Kieu Linh only intended to save the two dogs in the video, but when she saw dozens of other dogs in similar situations, she decided to buy them all. "Luckily, another rescue station agreed to share their care with me, each taking 40 dogs," the actress said.

For healthy pets, Kieu Linh brings them home to care for and sterilize. If any are sick, she takes them to the vet for treatment until they are completely cured. Every month, she travels from Ho Chi Minh City to Ba Ria - Vung Tau about two or three times to visit the dogs.

Due to the increasing number of dogs and limited space in the shelter, Kieu Linh posted information on social media to find new owners for them. "I always consider and select the background of the adopters, so that the dogs do not have to suffer abandonment and beatings," said the actress.

The biggest difficulties the artist faces are environmental issues and finding caregivers. While doing business and livestreaming sales, she also manages and urges her staff to vaccinate the dogs, isolate sick ones, and clean and disinfect the entire cage in the farm.

In order not to affect the surrounding residents, Kieu Linh built a manhole to treat the stench of dog feces. She also built a fence around the area, installed barbed wire, and a sturdy iron sliding door to prevent the dogs from running out and disturbing the people living nearby. However, the actress could not control their barking whenever she saw people passing by. Having received several complaints from local residents because the dogs were too noisy, the actress is planning to find a new piece of land, where there are fewer people living, to move these pets.

Kieu Linh said she uses her own money to raise and treat the animals. Each month, she spends about more than one hundred million VND. Thanks to her real estate business, she is not under much financial pressure. The actress has a manager and three people who help take care of, buy food for, and clean the dogs' living quarters.

Mr. Tran Phuoc Vinh, Vice Chairman of Dat Do Town People's Committee, said that the actor's dog farm is located in a rice field and outside the residential area planning, and is allowed to raise animals. Through the survey, the waste and food are put in bags, and the environmental treatment company collects them daily, so the environment is still guaranteed. "The farm raises abandoned dogs, this is a good and very new model in the locality," said Mr. Vinh.

According to Mr. Phuoc Vinh, the authorities in the town and neighborhood are continuing to monitor and instruct owners on how to prevent disease and vaccinate dogs against rabies, especially during the peak of the complicated hot season.

Kieu Linh, 43 years old, has been working in showbiz for nearly 20 years. She married artist Mai Son in 2008. The actress participated in films such as Tan Phong Nu Si, Cuoc Goi Uoc Oo Gio, Loi Song Sai Loi . In addition, she also acts in comedy shows and skits on television.
