Checking the windshield is a mandatory operation when inspecting road motor vehicles.
Giao thong Newspaper’s hotline received a question from a reader about a private car that broke and had a hole about 2cm in diameter in the right windshield due to a rock flying from the road. The registration deadline is coming up, will it fail the inspection?
A punctured or broken windshield on both sides is one of the important damages and defects, therefore, the car will fail the vehicle inspection (illustrative photo).
Regarding this issue, a representative of a vehicle inspection center said that a car windshield is a transparent layer of glass that is covered in the front, sides and rear of the car. The glass material has a good level of resistance to protect people in the car from dust, heat, rain, or foreign objects outside when the car is moving at high speed.
In addition, the windshield also creates stability for the vehicle's frame system, helping to protect the safety of the driver and passengers when suddenly encountering dangerous emergency situations.
Windshields can be cracked, punctured, or broken due to traffic collisions or being hit by hard objects, which affects its inherent function.
On the other hand, according to the provisions of the National Technical Regulation on motor vehicles, trailers, semi-trailers, four-wheeled cargo vehicles with engines in technical safety inspection and environmental protection (QCVN 122:2024), for windshields, if they are not complete, not securely installed; the front windshield is broken or cracked, affecting the driver's vision; the observed image is distorted or unclear; the side, rear and upper windshields are punctured or broken, they will be classified as major defects and damages (MaD). Therefore, the car will be refused registration, the car owner must fix it to bring the car for re-inspection.
The car of a reader of Giao thong Newspaper is one of the cases of damage and defect above. Therefore, to avoid failing the vehicle inspection and having to re-inspecte many times, the car owner needs to fix the holes in the windshield on both sides first, then take the car to be inspected.
According to the representative of the inspection center, in the windshield inspection category, if the windshields on both sides, the rear and the upper side are cracked, they will only be classified as minor defects or damages (MiD). Therefore, when all the remaining inspection categories are passed, the car with this defect will still be granted a certificate and inspection stamp.
