"It's absurd to have a Club World Cup," Koeman said in an interview on June 3. "Clubs can be happy with the money they get, but I can't imagine a player who has won many titles being happy to win the Club World Cup. It can't be compared to winning a domestic league, the Champions League, or even the Euros or the World Cup."
The Dutch national team coach is unhappy because his two students Denzel Dumfries and Stefan de Vrij of Inter Milan will not be able to rest and will have to travel continuously to attend the Club World Cup.
Specifically, in the event that Inter reach the Club World Cup final, Dumfries and De Vrij will only finish the season on July 13. After that, both will have a month to rest and refocus, preparing for the opening match of the 2025/26 Serie A season on August 17.
