Wings of Dreams for Disabled Children
With the introduction of the Quang Ninh Association for the Blind, the Provincial Journalists Association coordinated with units in the emulation bloc of Associations with special characteristics of Quang Ninh province to directly sponsor two visually impaired children in Cam Pha City and Mong Cai City. Both children live in families with especially difficult circumstances, lacking the arms of their parents or having relatives with serious illnesses, and unstable income. Not only facing illness, the children also face countless disadvantages in studying and integrating into society.
Nguyen Huyen Anh, born in 2015, residing in Group 5, Hai Gieng 2 area, Cam Thuy ward, Cam Pha city, was born blind, her father left when she was born. Her mother works as a hired worker, her job is unstable. Both mother and child are in poor health, having to live with her maternal grandmother, who is old, weak, and often sick.
Pham Quang Loc, born in 2008, currently lives in Vinh Thuc island commune, Mong Cai city. Due to an accident at the age of 5, although his family tried to find a cure, both of his eyes were blurred, with only 1/10 of his vision left. Loc's parents are both farmers, in poor health, and have low income. Along with giving support money and gifts to Loc, the Provincial Journalists Association has mobilized a number of organizations and philanthropists to join hands to help Loc with a total cost of over 8.5 million VND.
Understanding these disadvantages, the Association has coordinated with journalists, members, philanthropists and charitable organizations to join hands to support, not only with gifts and monthly financial support, but also with regular spiritual care. The Association maintains regular support, ensuring that each child is accompanied on the important learning journey.
“ I don’t see the light, but I know there is light from the hearts of journalists .” Those were the words of Pham Quang Loc, Vinh Thuc island commune, Mong Cai city, when he received a scholarship and school supplies on the occasion of the new school year. Although his eyes could not clearly see the faces of the visitors, with sincere feelings, he saw the warm, persistent hearts of those who quietly sowed hope.
In addition to direct support, the Association also spreads messages of love through press works. Many journalists have chosen the topic of disadvantaged and disabled children as material for reports and articles, thereby contributing to raising public awareness of the children's right to education, to live equally and to dream.
As journalist Nguyen Thi Thanh Van, resident of Vietnam News Agency in Quang Ninh, an active member in charity activities, once shared: " Every time I meet disabled children, or people with difficult circumstances in life, I feel that I need to write more, live more kindly. Because the grateful eyes of those circumstances are a wordless reminder that journalism is not only a career, but also a humanitarian mission ."
Not only do they act as “messengers”, Quang Ninh journalists have become a bridge between those in difficult circumstances and the loving community. In many fundraising campaigns, journalists have called for and mobilized gifts, scholarships, and bicycles for poor and disabled children. There are trips not only for reporting, but also to share and convey empathy in person.
Towards people in difficult areas
Not only stopping at humanitarian activities, the Association also actively participates in environmental protection and community support programs. In Co To island district, which is often affected by climate change and plastic waste. The Association has coordinated to organize activities such as donating trash bins, planting trees and raising awareness of environmental protection for the people. These practical activities contribute to building a green - clean - beautiful living community, clearly demonstrating the social responsibility of journalists for the sustainable development of the locality.
Or like the early days of summer, the Quang Ninh Provincial Journalists Association also coordinated with the charity group "Beloved Quang Ninh" to organize volunteer activities in Thuong Trach commune, Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province - a mountainous, border commune with over 98% of the population being ethnic minorities.
The delegation presented 4 banana slicers and animal feed pellet presses to local households; presented a set of speakers worth 10 million VND and 10 million VND in cash to support the construction of clean water systems for schools. Although the gifts were small, they were meaningful, helping local people improve their lives and learning conditions.
Not only that, during the Spring Press Festivals of all years, the Quang Ninh Provincial Journalists Association always gives practical gifts to people in difficult circumstances to celebrate Tet together. Like the Spring Press Festival of Canh Ty 2020, the Provincial Journalists Association organized visits, New Year greetings, encouragement and gifts for 40 policy families and poor households in the locality. In the Spring of Quy Mao 2023, the Association organized many meaningful activities, including awarding 15 scholarships, each worth 1 million VND, to students in difficult circumstances in Ba Che district; coordinating with philanthropists and local authorities to organize the inauguration of the solar-powered lighting system in Thanh Son commune. At the Spring Book, Newspaper and Photo Exhibition of Giap Thin 2024, the Association presented 2 sets of computers to Dam Ha District Library; awarded 10 scholarships worth 1 million VND each to students who have overcome difficulties and donated 1,000 pairs of warm socks to preschool children in the area; On the occasion of Tet At Ty 2025, the Provincial Journalists Association also coordinated with philanthropists to present 35 Tet gifts, along with computers to organizations and individuals in difficult circumstances in Dam Ha district and Dong Trieu city...
Accompanying the Quang Ninh Journalists Association in many charity activities, including trips hundreds of kilometers away, to remote villages and islands, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong, Head of the Quang Ninh Charity Group, said: “ Whether it is giving small gifts or larger supports, I feel one thing very clearly: Quang Ninh journalists do not only go to report news, but also go with all their hearts. There are times when I see reporters holding cameras and video cameras while carrying boxes of noodles and bags of rice to deliver to the people. Those images make us very emotional. They are quiet, not ostentatious, but full of responsibility and humanity. Being with the Quang Ninh Journalists Association is a warm resonance, making each trip more meaningful and humane .”
Inspire positive energy
Quang Ninh Provincial Journalists Association has coordinated with Uong Bi City to successfully organize 02 community sports competitions. These are Yen Tu Mountain Climbing Competition - Conquering Phu Van Peak and Yen Tu Heritage Marathon 2024 - Touching the heritage area.
These two events are not only purely sports but also become unique cultural and tourist activities, combining physical training with a journey to experience spiritual culture and national history. On the ancient mossy stone steps or the winding path under the rustling bamboo forest, each step is a physical challenge, a journey to conquer oneself, and also an emotional contemplation of the nation's origins.
As a co-organizer, the Quang Ninh Provincial Journalists Association actively participated right from the planning, communication, mobilizing members to participate in the competition, working and accompanying throughout the tournament organization. Reporters and editors not only reported and reflected the exciting atmosphere of the tournament but also directly joined the crowd to the sacred mountain, spreading the spirit of sportsmanship and humanity.
The sports activities co-organized by the Quang Ninh Provincial Journalists Association in Yen Tu are a vivid demonstration of the dynamism, social responsibility and benevolent hearts of the journalists of the Mining Land. They do not only speak with words, they “run” with actions – with sweat, with the spirit of not being afraid of difficulties, not being afraid of hardships, with a common ideal: for the health of the community, for a better society.
Conclude
The Quang Ninh Provincial Journalists Association has been writing special journeys, where compassion, sharing and social responsibility are intertwined in every step of the journalist. The unpretentious, unassuming, but deeply imbued with humanistic values have been carried out throughout the province and beyond.
Sharing about that journey, comrade Do Ngoc Ha, Permanent Vice President of the Quang Ninh Provincial Journalists Association, emphasized: “ We always identify that volunteer and social activities are not only a supplementary task, but also a core part of the culture of Quang Ninh journalism. Through each trip and each event, we want to contribute a small part to connecting the community, spreading good things, transmitting faith and hope. In the coming time, the Association will continue to maintain and expand community activities in a more practical, extensive and sustainable direction. We focus on promoting the proactive role of grassroots chapters, strengthening coordination with organizations, businesses and volunteer units to spread the spirit of humane journalism, responsibility and action .”
On each of those journeys, journalists are not only witnesses of the times, transmitters of information, but also those who sow seeds of love, touching the hearts of the community through action. And perhaps, it is this dedication, perseverance and sincerity that has made journalism more beautiful and sustainable in the hearts of the public today.
