Ba Che district has 56,568 hectares of forest and forest land, accounting for 93.4% of the total natural area. To create consensus and positive response from the people in developing the forest economy , the district has built a demonstration model of planting large timber forests; established a working group to propagate and mobilize households and individuals to register to plant large timber forests and indigenous trees such as: Sa moc, lim, thong ma vi, gioi, lat hoa, cinnamon...; supported 100% of the cost of buying seedlings, low-interest loans, proposed plans to plant local precious medicinal plants under the canopy of large timber forests so that forest growers have more income, using short-term to support long-term.
The district also directed the Protection Forest Management Board and enterprises and cooperatives that have been assigned or leased forestry land to develop a sustainable forest management plan in accordance with Circular No. 28/2018/TT-BNNPTNT dated November 16, 2018 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on sustainable forest management; deploy and implement well incentive mechanisms and policies to attract enterprises to invest in forestry development and deep processing of products from planted forest wood...
In the past 5 years, on average, the district has planted more than 3,500 hectares of new forest each year. In 2024 alone, 4,075.9 hectares of forest were planted, exceeding 13.4% compared to 2023. Of which, large timber forest is 211.9 hectares, native trees are 267.6 hectares and raw wood forest is 3,596.4 hectares. In the first months of this year, although the complicated weather and prolonged drought affected the progress of spring forest planting, by the end of April, the whole district had planted 4,780 hectares, reaching 95.6% of the plan.
Mr. Vi Thanh Vinh, Head of the District Department of Agriculture and Environment, said: Storm No. 3 in 2024 broke and felled 18,613 hectares of forestry trees in the district, of which about 80% of the forest area was completely damaged and had to be replanted. In order to restore production soon, the district launched a peak period to support forest clearing and sanitation, collecting fallen forest wood, and at the same time, counting the damage and preparing a dossier to request support for forestry damage caused by the storm. In December 2024, 909 households with 4,253.79 hectares Damaged plantations have received support , total cost 14,830.63 million VND . From this support, people will have more resources to plant forests in the spring of 2025.
To improve forest quality and preserve forest ecosystems, the district has actively implemented scientific and technological topics and tasks. In particular, Ba Che Forestry One Member Co., Ltd. has coordinated with the Department of Science and Technology to implement the provincial-level scientific and technological task "Conserving the genetic resources of the Gu Huong tree in Quang Ninh province" with an area of 5.0 hectares; Ba Che Protective Forest Management Board has coordinated with the Institute of Silviculture Research to implement the scientific research topic "Conserving the genetic resources of the Re Huong tree in Quang Ninh province" with an area of 2.0 hectares.
In addition, the district is coordinating with Thuan Nhien Forestry Cooperative, Thai Hung Port Joint Stock Company and Hoang Long Wood Chip Production Trading Company Limited Quang Ninh Implementing the issuance and maintenance of sustainable forest management certificates for more than 1,000 households in the communes of Don Dac, Nam Son, Thanh Lam, Thanh Son, Luong Minh, and Dap Thanh with a total area of 20,692.17 hectares of production forest, expected to be completed in 2025.
Mr. Khieu Anh Tu, Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee, said: Currently, the district has built a cinnamon processing factory belonging to Ba Che Cinnamon One Member Co., Ltd.; many forest and medicinal plant planting models have yielded products with relatively high economic value. Thanks to that, people have more confidence and motivation to boldly convert the structure of forestry crops from fast-growing, low-economic-value trees to planting large, indigenous timber trees and medicinal plants with high economic value.
