At the meeting on December 6, the 11th Provincial People's Council focused on discussing the socio -economic, national defense and security situation in 2023 and directions and tasks for 2024.

“Bright spot” in tourism activities

Reporting at the meeting, Mr. Phan Van Dang - Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee emphasized that Binh Thuan will carry out its socio-economic development tasks in 2023 under conditions of basic advantages such as organizing a series of events and activities of the National Tourism Year 2023 "Binh Thuan - Green Convergence" and putting into operation two expressways Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet, Phan Thiet - Dau Giay. Thereby, it has created a positive effect, contributing to promoting trade activities of goods, commerce, services, transportation, real estate, attracting more domestic and foreign investors and tourists to Binh Thuan, creating a driving force for socio-economic development of the province.

Notably, the gross regional domestic product (GRDP) is estimated to increase by 8.1% (ranked 14th out of 63 provinces and cities; ranked 4th out of 14 provinces in the North Central and Central Coast regions). In particular, the service industry has recovered with tourism being a bright spot.

The whole province welcomed 8.35 million visitors, an increase of 45.98% and estimated revenue of 22,300 billion VND, an increase of 63% compared to 2022 and has surpassed the group of provinces and cities in terms of high revenue. Discussing at the parliament, delegate Do Van Chung - Head of the Economic - Budget Committee of the Provincial People's Council said that in the context of the world economy as well as Vietnam's economy still facing many challenges, it will greatly affect the economic development of the province. Therefore, he proposed that the Provincial People's Committee focus on directing the comprehensive implementation of solutions to strive to achieve the set targets. Along with that, focus on reviewing and removing bottlenecks, difficulties and obstacles in investment, production and business to strongly promote growth associated with economic restructuring. Implement more drastically and effectively the disbursement of capital and effective implementation of 3 national target programs. Prioritize the allocation of public investment capital with focus, focus on key and urgent infrastructure projects to serve the socio-economic development of the province...

Maintain security and order

Referring to the issue of security, order and social safety, Deputy Huynh Thi Hoa - Head of the Legal Committee of the Provincial People's Council said: The situation of crime and law violations in the province is still complicated, causing anxiety and insecurity among voters and people. Crimes against social order increased by 27.58% over the same period. There were 89 very serious and especially serious cases. In the last months of the year, the owners of 4 hui lines in Phan Thiet City continuously declared the hui bankrupt with the total amount of money that participants reported being embezzled up to 200 billion VND... Deputy Hoa suggested that the Provincial People's Committee direct more drastically, the functional branches must have more specific, practical and effective solutions to carry out the work of fighting and preventing crimes and law violations to maintain stability, security and order, in the socio-economic development of the province.

Pay attention to policies

Regarding the socio-economic development policy for ethnic minority and mountainous areas, Deputy Thanh Thi Ky - Head of the Ethnic Minorities Committee of the Provincial People's Council requested the Provincial People's Committee to pay attention to directing all levels and sectors to seriously and effectively implement Decree No. 28/2022/ND-CP of the Government on preferential credit policies to implement the National Target Program on socio-economic development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas in the province. Promptly submit to the Provincial People's Council to issue a Resolution on the norms of state budget expenditure to support the development of production linked to the value chain and the community for national target programs...

Regarding the health sector, Deputy Ung Van Tam (Ham Thuan Bac unit) suggested that the Provincial People's Committee pay attention to investing in building a provincial general hospital worthy of being a place for medical examination and treatment for the people. At the same time, continue to direct the implementation of solutions to the shortage of drugs and medical supplies as in the recent past.

In addition, the Provincial People's Council deputies also emphasized that many issues have been repeatedly contacted by voters but have not seen any changes, such as the settlement of administrative procedures, especially in the field of land; the settlement of people's complaints; and the settlement of cases, especially civil cases. On the other hand, there are still officials and civil servants who are indifferent, afraid of responsibility in their work, and there is still pushing and avoiding in resolving work... The deputies requested the provincial leaders to pay attention, give strong direction, and make positive changes in the above contents.

At the discussion session, leaders of relevant departments and branches answered and explained a number of contents according to the requests of the provincial People's Council delegates that voters were interested in.
