After nearly three decades of absence from the emerging SUV segment, Russian automaker Avtovaz officially unveiled its all-new high-riding model, the Lada Azimut, targeting the domestic market and opening a new chapter for the Lada brand in the era of modernization. In fact, the Azimut is Lada's first model since Renault sold 63% of its shares to the Russian government for just one ruble (approximately 334 Vietnamese dong). It's a product entirely developed by Russians and intended for the Russian market due to the current complex geopolitical situation.
The new 2026 Azimut boasts a distinctive exterior design that sets it apart from traditional Lada models, being more powerful and modern. The front end is highlighted by a characteristic X-shaped grille and LED headlights seamlessly integrated with large air intakes. The body features sharp lines on the fenders, combined with two-tone 18-inch alloy wheels. At the rear, the taillights also feature a C-shape, connected by a slender light strip that runs across the trunk lid. Details such as the front bumper, door panels, D-pillar, and rear diffuser all appear to be finished in a material resembling aluminum.
The Lada Azimut is developed based on the chassis platform of its older sibling, the Vesta. It features a new rear suspension system and a ground clearance of 208 mm. The overall length and wheelbase are 4,420 mm and 2,680 mm, respectively. With these dimensions, the car is positioned in the B-segment SUV category.
The Lada Azimut's interior features a two-spoke power-adjustable steering wheel and a digital instrument panel seamlessly connected to a 10-inch central touchscreen. This system was developed in Russia after Renault withdrew. The car comes equipped with an integrated navigation system, a virtual assistant, a six-speaker sound system, a rearview camera, and keyless entry. Upgrade options include wireless phone charging, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated side windows, a power tailgate, and a 360-degree camera system. In the Russian market, this SUV is available with two engine options.
First is the 1.6L gasoline engine, producing a maximum power of 120 horsepower. Second is the 1.8L gasoline engine, producing a maximum power of 132 horsepower. These engines are paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic transmission. A turbocharged version with a maximum power of 150 horsepower, paired with an automatic transmission, is also currently under development. Unfortunately, the car is only available with front-wheel drive.
Production of the Lada Azimut is expected to begin next year at the Togliatti plant. The price of this SUV has not yet been announced. However, Russian media estimates the starting price will be around 2.5-3 million rubles (approximately 835 million to 1 billion VND). If this price is accurate, the Azimut will become Lada's most expensive model to date.
