After nearly three decades of absence in the newly developed SUV segment, Russian automaker Avtovaz officially unveiled a completely new high-chassis model called Lada Azimut, targeting the domestic market and opening a new chapter for the Lada brand in the era of modernization. In fact, the Azimut is the first Lada model since Renault sold 63% of its shares to the Russian government for just one ruble (about 334 VND). This is a product developed entirely by Russians and for the Russian market because of the current complicated geopolitical situation.
The new Azimut 2026 has a different exterior design from traditional Lada models, stronger and more modern. The front stands out with a characteristic X-shaped radiator grille, LED headlights connected to large air intakes. The body uses many sharp cuts on the fenders, combined with 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels. The rear of the car has a cluster of C-shaped taillights, connected by a thin strip of light across the trunk. Details such as the front bumper, door panels, D-pillar and rear diffuser all appear to be finished in an aluminum-like material. Lada Azimut is developed based on the chassis platform of its predecessor Vesta. The car is equipped with a new rear suspension system and a ground clearance of 208 mm. The overall length and wheelbase of the car are 4,420 mm and 2,680 mm respectively. With this size, the car is positioned in the B-size SUV segment.
The interior of the Lada Azimut features an electrically adjustable two-spoke steering wheel and a digital instrument cluster connected to a 10-inch central touchscreen. The system was developed by Russia itself because Renault withdrew. The car comes with an integrated navigation system, a virtual assistant feature, a 6-speaker audio system, a rearview camera and a keyless entry system. Upgrade options include wireless phone charging, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated side windows, an electric tailgate, and a 360-degree camera system. In the Russian market, the SUV is available with two engine options.
The first is a 1.6L petrol engine, producing a maximum capacity of 120 horsepower. The second is a 1.8L petrol engine, producing a maximum capacity of 132 horsepower. The engine is combined with a 6-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic transmission. A turbocharged version with a maximum capacity of 150 horsepower, with an automatic transmission is also being developed. Unfortunately, the car is only available with front-wheel drive.
Production of the Lada Azimut is expected to begin next year at the Togliatti plant. The price of the SUV has not yet been announced. However, Russian media estimates that the starting price will be around 2.5 - 3 million rubles (equivalent to 835 million to 1 billion VND). If this price is correct, the Azimut will become Lada's most expensive model to date.
