The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested departments, branches and local authorities to strengthen propaganda andeducation on drowning prevention for children in many appropriate forms, closely coordinate with families in managing children during summer vacation, rainy season, storms and natural disasters.
Localities are required to encourage parents to teach their children safe swimming and drowning prevention skills; absolutely do not let children play in ponds, lakes, rivers or streams without an adult who knows how to swim accompanying them.
Communes should organize inspections of areas at high risk of drowning accidents such as ponds, lakes, water holes, rivers and streams; promptly install warning signs, barriers, and prohibit swimming. Water storage areas for agricultural production or areas where drowning often occurs must be equipped with rescue equipment such as buoys, rescue ropes, poles, etc.
Families are advised to commit to setting up safety barriers around water holes and dangerous areas in gardens and fields and take responsibility if drowning accidents occur due to failure to take preventive measures.
Departments and functional units increase communication time, disseminate drowning prevention skills, and enhance family responsibility in monitoring and reminding children.
The Department of Health regularly inspects and guides the implementation of drowning prevention solutions at the grassroots level, and at the same time reports the situation and proposes timely measures to the Provincial People's Committee and the Ministry of Health .
The Provincial People's Committee also requested the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and socio-political organizations to closely coordinate with the government and relevant agencies to promote propaganda and raise awareness of child drowning prevention in the community.
In the first 6 months of 2025, Lam Dong recorded 49 child deaths due to injury accidents, of which 37 cases were due to drowning.
