On May 9, a leader of the Department of Education and Training of Dak Lak province said that he had directed the functional department to check information about many 12th grade students at Cao Ba Quat High School (Buon Ma Thuot City) requesting to reserve their study results.
Cao Ba Quat High School where many students "voluntarily" asked to leave school before the high school graduation exam
"I spoke to the school leaders over the phone and they confirmed that there was no incentive for weak students to drop out of school to increase the graduation rate as reported. However, the department will send a delegation to clarify the truth," said a leader of the Dak Lak Department of Education and Training.
According to the reporter's investigation, at least 3 12th grade students of Cao Ba Quat High School "voluntarily" submitted an application to reserve their results after being invited to discuss with the school. Among them, 1 student, after "voluntarily" submitting an application, returned to ask the homeroom teacher and principal of the school to let him go back to school, but by the time he reported to the reporter, he had not been allowed to go back to school.
Mrs. HMB and HGB talk to reporters about the incident
Ms. HMB (HGB's mother) said that on April 15, after the results of the second semester midterm exam were released, the homeroom teacher invited HGB and her parents to meet the principal, Ms. Huynh Thi Kim Hue. After the principal "confided", HGB was upset and wrote a request to leave school, reserving her results when there were more than 2 months left for the graduation exam.
Two days later, Ms. HMB texted the homeroom teacher to ask to go back to school. Instead of encouraging the student, the teacher replied: "No, ma'am, the principal has approved it." When the parents questioned and begged for their child to go back to school, the teacher texted: "I'll return the diploma at 9:35 at the school gate."
Two male students asked to reserve their results and go back to work as porters.
Then, on April 29, Ms. HMB went to school to meet Ms. Huynh Thi Kim Hue to ask for her child to go back to school. There, Ms. Hue said: "HGB was not approved for the graduation exam, and did not pass the exam..." and encouraged her to go back to school next year. At this time, Ms. HMB begged that she had a few more months to go, hoping that she could go back to school, but Ms. Hue said: "The school has been abolished, how can you go back to school? Okay, I thought something happened, go home."
According to the mid-term exam results, HGB got 4.8 points in math and above 5 points in the other subjects.
Similarly, after being invited to work by the school, two 12th grade students, YTA and YLE, with quite low academic scores, "voluntarily" wrote a letter of request to leave school and reserve their results. These two students are currently working as porters.
Ms. HNA (YTA's mother) said that after 12 years of studying, she wanted her child to finish grade 12 and whether or not he would graduate, she had to accept it. However, the school invited him to school to inform him that his child was a poor student and would have difficulty graduating, so they advised him to keep his results.
"Whether the student passes or not, they will have to study until the end of the year. However, the teachers said it was very harsh, so I had my child write a leave application to reserve his/her results," said Ms. HNA.
