Clarifying the case of a pregnant woman in anaphylactic shock and death in Hai Phong

On April 13, the Department of Maternal and Child Health (Ministry of Health) sent an official dispatch to the Hai Phong City Department of Health regarding the verification and reporting of a medical incident involving a pregnant woman LTC (born in 1980, in Noi Don village, Tan Lien commune, Vinh Bao district, Hai Phong city) when she came to give birth at Vinh Bao District General Hospital.

The Ministry of Health requested the Hai Phong Department of Health to inspect, verify the incident and promptly report to the Ministry of Health before 12:00 on April 15. At the same time, direct Vinh Bao District General Hospital to hold a professional council meeting to evaluate the process of receiving, caring for and handling the LTC pregnant woman; notify the conclusion of the professional council to the pregnant woman's family and the mass media and report the results of the case to the Ministry of Health before May 31.

According to the initial report of Vinh Bao District General Hospital, at around 6am on March 5, the LTC patient went to the hospital to complete the admission procedures to give birth. After the cesarean section, the LTC patient experienced grade III anaphylactic shock, which progressed to grade IV anaphylactic shock.

Doctors at Vinh Bao General Hospital treated the patient according to the Ministry of Health's anaphylaxis protocol, focused on emergency care for the pregnant woman, and consulted with Kien An Hospital (Hai Phong City) and transferred the patient to a higher level at 10:15 p.m. on March 5.

However, the LTC pregnant woman's condition worsened and she had to be transferred to Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital, and on the morning of March 6, the patient died.
