Land Rover Defender 130 has a child seat latch problem

Báo Tuyên QuangBáo Tuyên Quang10/05/2023

Land Rover Defender 130 with 8 seats launched in Vietnam market in mid-2022.

Accordingly, Jaguar Land Rover is recalling the Defender model because the LATCH anchors and tethers for children in the third row (Defender 130 version) may be defective, resulting in the child seat operation being interrupted due to the seat's durability being reduced. This could lead to injury in the event of an accident.

The British carmaker was warned of the risk in October 2022 and decided to suspend sales of the car in November 2022 to fix the error. At this time, Jaguar Land Rover also conducted internal checks to fix the error. Now, the settlement of the models sold on the market is officially underway.

The number of Land Rover Defenders recalled globally is not yet known, but all were produced at the UK plant in 2022.

In Vietnam, Land Rover Defender is being sold with all 3 body variants including 90, 110 and 130. This SUV model is introduced and officially sold by distributor Phu Thai Mobility, all of which have a common origin when imported from Jaguar Land Rover's assembly plant in the UK.

Until the issue is resolved, users should avoid installing child seats in the third row of the aforementioned vehicles.

This is not the first time the Defender has been in trouble with safety issues. In September 2022, Jaguar Land Rover recalled a series of 2022 models in the UK, including the Defender, due to a problem related to the seat belt tensioner that could increase the risk of injury in a collision.
